Mostly White Kansas City CEOs Desperately Promise Diversity

Please don't be confused by our post title . . .

Our contempt for local big biz has nothing to do with their racial makeup and is mostly about their civic misadventures and endless propaganda.

Accordingly . . .

KANSAS CITY SUITS DEMAND DIVERSITY!!!

Sadly . . .

Most local corporate boardrooms remain mostly white and packed with grads from the "lower" Ivy League Schools and lesser state institutions.

Even worse . . .

As far as hiring diversity goes . . .

The biggest Kansas City corporations have a nasty habit of hiring out-of-towners OR recruiting a slew of H1-B workers from the far east and calling that a diverse workforce.

Our TKC pet peeve . . .

No, the hottie from South America with blonde hair and a Ph.D. does absolutely nothing to "connect" with the Latino community in Kansas City. Reality check: She's actually much "whiter" than her hayseed boss if we REALLY wanted to get picky about it.

But I digress . . .

Here's a peek at the diversity mandates that will mostly serve to power worsening resentment betwixt broke-ass Americans of all racial backgrounds . . .

CEOs (or other executive leaders) must pledge to:

- Buy from small and diverse‐owned businesses when possible.
- Be an advocate for the cause internally and with peers.
- Establish an internal accountability framework around intentional, inclusive procurement to include data tracking and reporting of new and existing vendors.
- Tie inclusive procurement goals to the firm’s strategic priorities.
- Evaluate sourcing and procurement spend and explore opportunities to grow and expand relationships and innovate processes to include diverse suppliers.
- Build the diversity of the firm’s supplier pipeline.
- Spotlight success stories of diverse suppliers.
- Add resources for development and measurement of these activities.

Even better . . .

The companies on the list are some of the biggest in Kansas City and ALL OF THEM are major political contributors.

Read more via www.TonysKansasCity.com given that the link tease looks like an old school cover of adult movies that I would quickly scurry past if only because I didn't want to risk getting too curious:

Meet the 12 KC companies pledging to buy from diverse vendors; Join them in the CEO-to-CEO Challenge

Editor's note: The following story was sponsored by KC Rising, a regional initiative to help Kansas City grow faster and more intentionally, as part of a campaign to promote its CEO-to-CEO Challenge on supplier diversity. A dozen high-profile Kansas City companies are at the vanguard of a new regional effort to boost supplier diversity programs that promote equity in buying decisions and support local businesses.
