Kansas City 'Parade Of Hearts' Is Schmaltzy Not Artsy

First let's define terms . . .

schmaltz (n.) - "banal or excessive sentimentalism," 1935, from Yiddish shmalts, literally "melted fat," from Middle High German smalz, from Old High German smalz "animal fat," related to smelzan "to melt"

Accordingly . . .

This festival of cheese has little to no civic value and we're sorry to say even the old school cow parade had more merit because it was self-deprecating and offended more than a few people.

Meanwhile, this festival of mediocrity feels more like a branding exercise . . .

The Parade of Hearts is setting up more than 150 of these statues across Kansas City.

Local artists submitted their work in hopes of being selected to showcase their art on one of the statues.

From a tribute to the jazz district, to the love of barbecue, you can see all kinds of art representing Kansas City culture on the hearts.
