KANSAS CITY BIG 12 BUST 2022?!?

Look around downtown Kansas City and notice something out of character for this time of season . . .

BIG 12 WEEK ISN'T REALLY A BIG DEAL IN KANSAS CITY RIGHT NOW!!!

There are a few reasons why and they're worth considering . . .

Rising Gas Prices Keep Visitors Away

More than anything, this will define life in the US going forward . . .

Gas Prices Are Higher Now Than Ever Before In US History

This fact of life will limit and impact a great deal of tourism going forward.

Fact is . . . All those commuters aren't going to pay 4-5 bucks a gallon to watch their favorite team lose to KU.

Downtown Still Kinda Dead

The best part of the Big 12 was always skipping work or taking off early to enjoy the festivities or maybe even take in a game.

Now . . . With so many people STILL teleworking this really isn't an option. Again, rising gas prices aren't going to lure suburbanites back inside the loop. And thereby the fun has been taken out of most of the games.

Big XII Ain't What It Used To Be . . .

With Mizzou gone the level of competition really isn't that captivating.

Truth be told . . . The Big 12 is one of the least interesting divisions in college basketball. The regional rivalries have faded and after two years of COVID on the horizon along with fear of Vlad & the Russkies spreading across the globe . . . This year the rubes from Iowa don't seem to be helping to maintain this local b-ball celebration.

Overall this is bad news for KCMO and local leaders & tourism officials might want help spark a bit more excitement for an event that locals seem to be taking for granted despite fading interest.

Developing . . .
