The level of local violence continues to escalate locally as this Springtime killing occurred amongst several bystander and witnesses.
Again, this is the 33rd homicide so far in 2022 compared to 39 at this time last year and 36 in 2020 - Kansas City's record breaking year for murders.

Homicide 8th and Wheeling
Today at approximately 11:45 AM, officers were dispatched on a shooting at 8th and Wheeling. Upon arrival officers found an adult male victim on the sidewalk who had been shot. He was unresponsive and officers began CPR at that time. EMS arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was then pronounced deceased. We do not have any suspect information at this time and are asking for the public’s help.
Detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene and are actively canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence. One man is dead following a shooting near Winner Road and Wheeling earlier today. Police responded to a shooting call around 11:45 Tuesday morning, where they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds on the sidewalk unresponsive. Officers began CPR until medics arrived. EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he was declared deceased.
