Fentanyl Kills Kansas City Student: Do We Solve Drug Crisis With Harm Reduction?!?

Today we note a local tragedy and the rising proliferation of dangerous illegal drugs in the metro.

Reality check: The American opioid is worsening and claiming more lives. Global narco-terrorist cartels are now operating domestically and the drug trade is so widespread that it's becoming a growing part of the US economy

Locally, here's the horrific impact . . .

The student was sophomore and died Tuesday afternoon, according to an email the school sent to families. It said the student took the pill outside of school Thursday evening, and was unaware it contained a lethal amount of fentanyl.

In the past police have said one of the things that makes fentanyl so dangerous is that a very small amount of the drug can be deadly.

And this got us thinking about a recent bit of content that argued for a more permissive and compassionate response . . . Given that the drug war has largely FAILED . . .

In his latest rant, John Oliver claps back against police fentanyl warnings and offers an alternative view of drug treatment . . . Take a look . . .

Allow us a moment of doubt and (barely) enough room in our heads to hold two opposing ideas . . .

TKC isn't quite so confident that government regulated junkie shooting galleries and free crack pipes are the way out of this mess.

We'd honestly like to hear thoughtful suggestions that might help to keep this nation as both a FREE AND DECENT society.

The only thing we know for sure is that what WHATEVER STRATEGY THAT'S IN PLACE NOW ISN'T WORKING.
