Kansas City Dismisses El Diablo Too Quickly After Horrific Decapitation Of Youngster

Rather than given to the Mexican fatalism of my cultural traditions, let's start with a rudimentary bit of philosophy . . .

The problem of evil is the question of how to reconcile the existence of evil and suffering with an omnipotent, omnibenevolent, and omniscient God.

Catholics dodge this existential debate by blaming free will and encouraging debilitating guilt amongst all of the faithful so that they'll stop asking tough questions.

However . . .

Even blind faith in Determinism can't deny that sometimes the innocent suffer unnecessary and horrific tragedies.

And all of that brings us to a terrifying consideration of El Diablo.

I've always thought of the Devil as a woman given that the power of manipulation and a preternatural understanding of what motivates people is a job requirement.

Moreover . . .

Most men understand that there are so many things that they have done for OR at the behest of women that they'd never even consider of their own accord  . . . Hell, TKC even had to suffer through a ballroom dancing course at one point.

But I digress . . .

As for the recent crime under discussion . . .

Another shocking detail stands out . . .

"Court documents allege Tasha Haefs admitted to killing her son in a bathtub. She has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and is being held without bond."

Again, chalking this up to "mental health issues" or a mere failure of the social safety net is a poor rationalization.

Violent decapitation is a very real sign of evil in this world and it's not a problem that the government is going to solve with more stimmy.

Instead, a tragedy so horrific should inspire us all to look deeper into our souls and consider what could motivate any person to commit this kind of atrocity.

Skeptics will deny the supernatural, blame brain chemistry and essentially minimize every appalling act in order to make sense of a seemingly chaotic universe ruled by randomness

Meanwhile, the problem of evil persists and plagues those of us who don't pretend to understand "the science" and don't dare to diminish so many truly awful things which often befall humanity.
