Check Kansas City's Social Justice Budget

As is our cowtown tradition . . .

BUDGET TIME IN KANSAS CITY MEANS THAT LOCALS GET TO ENJOY SO MANY EMPTY PROMISES THAT GO UNFULFILLED EVERY YEAR!!!

Here's the latest batch . . .

From the city manager's tweet . . .

Our retorts will be in parentheses . . .

We proudly introduced a $1.9 billion budget in #KansasCity.  A quick summary thread.  This budget:

▪️restores cash reserves to pre pandemic levels and closes a $70 million shortfall

(Read: Taking credit for taxpayer money)

▪️expands key city services like snow removal, street sweeping, and litter pickup

(There hasn't ever been a mayoral administration in KCMO history that HASN'T promised this)

▪️supports affordable housing and housing insecurity initiatives with the affordable housing trust fund, homelessness prevention, workforce development, tenant advocates, right to counsel, and more

(This promise is very real and most neighborhoods don't like it.)

▪️includes well deserved raises for city employees

(Attrition after a years-long hiring & salary freeze make this easier)

▪️makes critical infrastructure investments such new software for finance and HR, new vehicles, and building improvements

(City Hall gets new toys)

▪️Continues our record setting pace of 300 miles of streets to be resurfaced this year

(Perspective from the KCMO website: The City has about 6,000 lane miles of pavement.)

▪️advances sustainability efforts with new tree plantings, LED streetlights, and a moving towards a zero emission fleet

(We call this the AOC clause)

▪️continues vision zero efforts to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our roads for all road users

(This is the Council Dude Eric Bunch Clause)

▪️Adds 150 new KCPD officers

(No it doesn't and not after two years of defund anti-police chatter from 12th & Oak)

There's a LOT more in here to be excited about.  Public hearings coming soon- make sure we get this right.  Check out the flyer or visit http://kcmo.gov/budget for more information and to view the entire document.

A HUGE thanks to our incredible budget team on this!

(Look closely. There's also a promise for a free unicorn!!!)
