First responders have been hit hard with the latest wave of the pandemic.

The department said that about 80% of employees are vaccinated.
"We're seeing people come on and off the list daily," assistant fire chief Jimmy Walker said.
Walker said he believes most of the cases could be the omicron variant because of how fast they've spread. He said there were only about five cases a month ago.
"It's been tough the entire pandemic -- but it's not just us, it's been rough on everybody," Walker said.

The Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department has 130 members from the department currently out with COVID-19. "It is one step forward, two steps back," said assistant fire chief Jimmy Walker.
