Kansas City Overnight Homicide Investigation After Deadly Front Yard Gunfire

Unofficially, this is the 3rd or 4th homicide of the year compared to 7 at this time last year.

Homicide 1800 block E. 78th st

Tonight just before 9:30pm officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of e. 78th st (78th st and Hickman Mills dr.) on an outside disturbance, sounds of shots.  While on the way the call was upgraded to a shooting call.

On arrival officers were directed to a front yard of a residence there.  They located a vehicle that had come to rest in the yard with an adult male shooting victim inside the vehicle, unresponsive.

EMS responded and declared the victim deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was shot while inside the vehicle and it rolled to a stop in the front yard of the residence there.

Detectives and crime scene personnel are processing the scene to get more information about what led up to the shooting.  They will also be working with the medical examiner to identity the victim and determine what connection to the vehicle may exist.

*It should be noted, although somewhat close in proximity to the previous death investigation on Wabash there is no indication that the two events are connected.
