Police Union Warns: KCPD Numbers Hit 32 Year Low After November Retirements

Tonight, police warn of a crisis in the making and a vital community resource that's being depleted amid divisive political gamesmanship.  

Here's the word . . .

"As of today’s resignation announcements KCPD will end 2021 with the same numbers as 1989. We are now at a 32 year low. Our members are among the lowest paid in the region and no pay raises for over 3 years. Recruiting to a department that has been historically underfunded and underpaid is almost impossible. Keeping young officers is equally difficult. Should the upcoming budget be as dire as past years we will be holding a hiring fair for outside agencies. We hate losing incredible members, but while the City Council contemplates future defunding measures we have to recognize that our members have to find some semblance of financial security."
