The colder weather signals the start of dangerous abandoned and "problem" home fires in the Kansas City urban core.

This week, fire hits a Northeast structure twice in one week.

Fire strikes 6th Street home for 3rd time in four weeks

Kansas City Missouri firefighters responded to a house in the 3000 block of East 6th Street this morning to a fire in an abandoned house that is a known location for squatters. According to fire investigators this is the third or fourth fire in the last 30 days, and the sixth or seventh fire in the last 18 months, one resulting in a fatality in February of 2020.


Two for two for problem house on 6th street

For the second time in as many days, KCFD crews responded to an already gutted out shell of a house at 3014 E. 6th Street around 6:30 this morning. Firefighters did a complete check and determined that the smoke was from a campfire set in the backyard.
