Kansas City 2021 Homicide #147: Gunfire Victim Succumbs To Injuries


The impact of Kansas City gunfire persists long after a crime scene is cleared.

Accordingly, here's follow-up from a recent shooting and the latest addition to the rising murder count.

Again, unofficially, this is the 147th homicide so far this year compared to 173 at this time last year, 141 the year before that and 124 (138 total) in 2018.

Here is the report . . .

Homicide 4100 block of Montgall - LATE DEATH

On 11/28/21 just after 2am, officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Montgall on a sound of shots call.  While officers were on the way the call was upgraded to a shooting.  Upon arrival, they located the victim unresponsive in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was transported to the hospital with critical life threatening injuries.   Later in the day, Assault Squad detectives were advised the victim remained on life support.

Detectives and Crime Scene investigators responded that night and processed the scene and began their investigation.

On Dec. 7 detectives were advised the victim has died from his injuries.

The victim is identified as Jamell Hornbeck B/M 10/10/1989
