Kansas City 2021 Homicide #143: Victim Killed After Sunday Drive-By

Kansas City's homicide count is escalating quickly.

This week there have been half a dozen murders and this is the 3rd homicide so far this weekend. 

Overall and unofficially, this is the 143rd killing so far this year compared to 171 this time last year, 141 the year before that and 138 total in 2018.

Here is the first report . . .

Homicide 54th and Olive

This morning just before noon officers were dispatched to 54th and Olive on a shooting call.

When officers arrived they located the victim, a male in his 60s, unresponsive near the sidewalk in front of a residence there.

EMS responded to the scene and transport the victim to the hospital where he was declared deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was walking down the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled along side the victim and someone inside fired shots at the victim, then left the scene in an unknown direction.

Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence.
