A Resolution expressing opposition to the current mask mandate promulgated by the Jackson County, Missouri and urging the adoption of a mask mandate similar to that in place within the corporate limits of the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

Issue/Request:

On August 9, 2021 Jackson County Missouri via the County Executive first enacted the current mask mandate.  At that time, covid transmission in the County was high and a similar mask mandate was in effect in Kansas City, Missouri.  At this time, however, covid transmission is much lower.  Notwithstanding those lower numbers, the same mask mandate was extended on November 1 by Jackson County  to continue until November 22, 2021.  On November 4, 2021 the City of Kansas City, Missouri dramatically scaled back its mask mandate to have only limited applicability.  This resolution states the opposition of the Council of the City of Lee's Summit to the current Jackson County mask mandate and urges adoption of a mask mandate similar to that in Kansas City, Missouri.

Proposed City Council Motion:

I move for adoption of a Resolution expressing opposition to the current mask mandate promulgated by the Jackson County, Missouri and urging the adoption of a mask mandate similar to that in place within the corporate limits of the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

Presenter

Brian W. Head, City Attorney
