According to a search warrant, the man told police he and his girlfriend had broken up but that she spent the night on Nov. 7 as the couple sought to work out their differences. When he came home from work the following day, he found his girlfriend lying in a pool of blood and called 911.

The boyfriend told police he overheard a paramedic say his girlfriend may have had a miscarriage.

The boyfriend suggested to police that he was unaware of the pregnancy, telling them he had asked her while she was being treated in the hospital whether she had known she was pregnant. He told investigators that she did not answer his question.

Authorities are investigating after they found a dead baby in a trash can outside an apartment in the 1000 block of NE Lindsay Avenue in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
