Kansas City Bus Riders: BRT Better Than Toy Train Streetcar

Early morning reality check . . . 

TKC readers actually ride the bus . . . Unlike so many transit activists, we don't just drive SUVs in order to bike a couple of miles in the suburbs.

Accordingly . . .

Here's an EXCELLENT insight from a KICK-ASS TKC READER on BUS RAPID TRANSIT that isn't as glamorous as fixed rail but is much more cost efficient and feasible . . .

"The idiots are already talking about extending the streetcar east and west from KU Med to Arrowhead. They don’t realize it is NOT rapid transit like a metro ail or subway. It rides on the street, not dedicated right of way rail lines that can go at speeds of 70 mph with limited stops.

"The Main Street, Troost and Prospect Max bus rapid transit lines are a better form of bus transit, but there are better BRT systems in the world. The Healthline BRT in Cleveland is state of the art and a model for other American cities.  Has our city even checked that out? "

KCATA plans to build bi-state, fast-transit bus line with infrastructure bill funding

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - President Biden signed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill into law Monday. The federal government will spend $550 billion on America's roads, bridges, broadband, water and energy systems over five years. The money given to the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority will go toward predominantly four things: better roads, electric vehicles, upgrades to KCATA headquarters and most importantly a bi-state, fast-transit bus route.
