Kansas City 2021 Homicide #138: Dead Body Discovered On Independence Avenue

The rate of local killing declined from last year's record breaking pace but still seems to be trending upward, especially as the holidays approach. 

Unofficially, this is the 138th homicide so far this year compared with 166 at this time last year and 136 the year before that . . .

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide 8100 block of Independence Ave.

This morning just before 10am officers were called to a vacant lot in the 8100 block of Independence Ave on a dead body call.

Officers located a deceased male at that location and contacted detectives for investigation.

Based on preliminary investigation, the Homicide Unit was called to the scene.  The investigation is very early and the scene is still being investigated, but the circumstances are sufficiently suspicious that it is being investigated as a homicide at this time.

Homicide detectives are canvassing the area for any witnesses and working with the crime scene investigators to process the scene for evidence.

The detectives will also work with the medical examiners office to determine a cause of death.
