Hipster's Banker Dad Bought The Pitch For Him

Credit where it's due, The Star snoops on local media better than it reports on REAL NEWS around the metro.

Never mind that we talked about this over the weekend.

The newspaper recently provided two important tidbits on the fate of a fading local publication.

First . . .

"Carey Media has sold the 41-year-old local alternative publication to a group that includes current Pitch editor Brock Wilbur; his wife, Vivian Kane; his father, Tom Wilbur; and two local business owners, Mat Moody and Steve Chase."

Long story short:

Brock's Dad is a retired banker and seems to be the only adult in the room . . . Of course he's stuck with the bill.

Another funny . . .

One of the new owners runs a content mill out in Salina and thinks that A.I. can write engaging articles that locals want to read . . . Other companies have tried as much across the globe and with deeper pockets. So far it hasn't worked in any other instance than Reddit - Which seems to be mostly bot comments and content courtesy of Chinese owners . . .

However, The Pitch was never famous for conversation, they thrived as a place for WRITERS

Accordingly, there are more (empty) promises to bring additional scribes aboard.

Finally . . .

It was a divorce, COVID and probably a great deal of money lost that seemed to spark the current sale to the hipsters who formerly owned our favorite alternative mag.

New owners buy Kansas City alternative magazine The Pitch. Here's what they plan

For the third time in 10 years, The Pitch has changed ownership. Carey Media has sold the 41-year-old local alternative publication to a group that includes current Pitch editor Brock Wilbur; his wife, Vivian Kane; his father, Tom Wilbur; and two local business owners, Mat Moody and Steve Chase.
