TKC Readers Talk Back On Abyssal Kansas City School Ranking

Last week we blogged a school ranking website debut that generated a surprising amount of interest from our reader community.

A TKC link for those who haven't seen it yet . . .

Accordingly, here are some of the top comments that deserve consideration . . .

A note about STL competition . . .

"This is great because it does not take into account the BS stuff like school accreditation.  Remember when KCMO improved their accreditation because of back office BS while student achievement stayed the same or lowered?

"KC finished 504 out of 516 and came in second to last for city based schools (ahead of the Loo). This is a win for KCMO because (for some unknown reason) they have a big beef/inferiority complex with StL.  So much so that our 'paper of record', the KC Star battles its rival city equivalent The RiverFront Times on a semi-regular basis.  KC will work with bear management principles and claim success...meaning run faster than your rivals when being chased by a bear."

A transit juxtaposition . . .

"Kansas City ranks 504 out of 516.  Should we be investing in educating our city’s future leaders or throw more money at a streetcar that tourist can ride for free?"

Talking priorities . . .

"The ranking of metro Missouri school districts and maybe most of all Kansas City School District can & should improve from 509 out of 516 before the World Cup comes to Kansas City.  Once again the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, VistKC, Civic Council, Downtown Council and the Democrats of Kansas City all have their priorities in the wrong place.  Maybe this why we have most of the bloodshed in those school districts that are failing. More subsidies for luxury apartments and stadiums should keep the people distracted until someone they know is killed.  Thank you elite of world class Kansas City!"

You decide . . .
