Unofficially, this is homicide #118 so far this year compared to around 149 last year and 115 the year before that . . .
Here's the report . . .
Just before 2 PM, officers were dispatched to a shooting in the area of Independence Avenue and Paseo. Upon arrival officers found an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was in the area of the homeless camp located to the north of Independence Avenue. The victim was transported to the hospital and was pronounced deceased once at the hospital.
Detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene and are actively canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene. One person is dead following a shooting in the homeless camp on City property at the southwest corner of Independence Avenue and The Paseo earlier this afternoon. Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers and medical personnel were called to the scene just before 2 p.m.

Investigators said the shooting happened at an area where people who are homeless are known to gather.

There, in the area of a nearby camp where people experiencing homelessness stay, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
