DEADLY GUNFIRE ERUPTED TODAY AT A HOMELESS CAMP THAT HAS BEEN AT THE CENTER OF LOCAL CONTROVERSY AND NEIGHBORHOOD COMPLAINTS!!!

We've documented problems near this site throughout the year and even KCUR noted the hazardous threat . . . 

Mayor Q and the city manager weren't persuaded and so tragedy inevitably ensued . . .

Unofficially, this is homicide #118 so far this year compared to around 149 last year and 115 the year before that . . . 

Here's the report . . .

Just before 2 PM, officers were dispatched to a shooting in the area of Independence Avenue and Paseo. Upon arrival officers found an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.  The victim was in the area of the homeless camp located to the north of Independence Avenue. The victim was transported to the hospital and was pronounced deceased once at the hospital.

Detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene and are actively canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene. Homicide at tent camp near Independence and Paseo

One person is dead following a shooting in the homeless camp on City property at the southwest corner of Independence Avenue and The Paseo earlier this afternoon. Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers and medical personnel were called to the scene just before 2 p.m.

The deadly shooting happened just after 2:30 p.m. A man with gunshot wounds was transported to a hospital where he died. Investigators said the shooting happened at an area where people who are homeless are known to gather.

The shooting happened near Independence Avenue and The Paseo, according to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department. There, in the area of a nearby camp where people experiencing homelessness stay, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
