Kansas City 2021 Homicides Hit #125 After Latest Deadly Shootings

Violence continues to plague Kansas City as gunmen found their targets amid a foggy October evening.

Two separate shooting incidents helped to spike the local killing count to #125.

Here are the first reports . . .

Homicide 59th and Troost

Sunday night just after 9:30pm officers were called to 5901 Troost at the gas station on a shooting call. A male who had been shot walked into the gas station asked for help and collapsed.

When officers and EMS arrived they located the victim, an adult male, unresponsive in the parking lot and rendered aid. The victim was transported to the hospital.  A short time later the victim was declared deceased at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting occurred a short distance away to the north on Troost and the victim walked to the gas station.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the homicide unit directly at 234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

The second deadly shooting not too long after . . .

Homicide 113th and Askew

Tonight just after 11pm officers were called to 113th and Askew on a shooting call.
When officers arrived they located a shooting victim in front of a residence there unresponsive (preliminarily appears to be an adult male).

Officers summoned in EMS who declared the victim deceased at the scene.  Witnesses at the scene indicated that a disturbance occurred between the victim and one or more suspects that led to the victim being shot.

Detectives and crime scene personnel are canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence.

Again, unofficially according to TKC, this brings the KCMO 2021 homicide count to #125 compared to 156 last year and 124 the year before that . . .

Upon entering office Mayor Q hoped to lower the Kansas City homicide count to under 100.

During COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns KCMO followed the nation's violent course and our rate of killing skyrocketed to 179 in 2020 - An all-time record-breaking number. 

The current KC rate of homicide has thankfully declined since last year but still remains on an upward trajectory when compared to data over the past 5 years.
