Earlier today we mentioned that this shooting confirmed a fact of life: The Kansas City metro can't have anything nice.

However, for the deep thinkers amongst our blog community we offer a more serious consideration . . .

AMID THE PROLIFERATION OF GUNS AND SPIKE IN VIOLENCE: ARE THE DAYS OF THE OUTDOOR FESTIVAL FINISHED?!?!

The roots of this party are low rent. 

There isn't much security and people are on the honor system to help keep each other and youngsters safe. 

Sadly, that expectation of basic human decency broke down last night and it's doubtful that we can seriously expect people to be on their best behavior anytime in the near future. 

And so liability becomes a question for planners next year and into the future.

Witnesses recount shooting at SantaCaliGon Days Festival

INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -- A day of holiday fun took a frightening turn Sunday night with fights and multiple shootings. An unknown suspect shot a total of four people at the Independence SantaCaliGon Days Festival. Police say the shooting happened after a fight in the carnival area of the festival.

Three teens and an adult are recovering after a shooting late Sunday at SantaCaliGon Days in Independence.Many of the people operating carnival rides and games were running and ducking for cover after several gunshots were fired at the festival."It's a sad thing knowing that bullets don't have names on them
