Sadly, it seems like the COVID era trend in local violence is that WOMEN ARE GETTING KILLED at an increasing rate.
Worse still . . . Most of the victims are women of color.
Accordingly, here's today's local homicide report . . .
Homicide 8200 block of Forest
This morning about 7:40am officers were dispatched to the area of 82nd and Forrest on a shooting call.
When Officers arrived they located an adult female shooting victim unresponsive in the street at the entrance to the apartment complex there. Officers summoned EMS in for treatment, and they unfortunately declared her deceased here at the scene.
Detectives and crime scene personnel are canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence to hopefully lead detectives to determine what led up to the shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that a confrontation between an unknown male suspect and the shooting victim occurred in the street there that led to the victim being shot.
Troost is closed to vehicle traffic in both directions as we are processing the scene and working with the residents in the area to get in and out to get to work and kids to school.
If anyone saw anything here this morning or has any information they are asked to contact the Homicide Unit directly at 235-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
