Independence, MO Police Officer Hit During Deadly Shootout

Here are the deets that we know right now after a terrifying bit of local gunplay . . .

"Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy Bell said that officers were called to a home at 11:30 a.m. and were met by a man who fired on the officers, hitting one officer. The second officer returned fire and hit the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The injured officer was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The other Independence officer was not hurt."

INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -- Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating an officer-involved that happened in Independence on Wednesday. Around 11:30 a.m., police were called to a residential address at S. Northern Boulevard and E. 24th Street South. There, they came across a male suspect who fired at officers. One officer returned fire.
