Witnesses Flee Deadly Kansas City South Side Shooting Scene

Here's the first report of a chaotic and deadly scene to start the Kansas City weekend as police work to reassure the community and hope witnesses will help solve the crime.

Unofficially, this is the 94th homicide in 2021 so far.

Last year at this time there were 117 homicides and the year before that the count was 88 at this point on the calendar.

Homicide 12100 block of E 43rd St

Just after 9:15pm (on Friday night), officers were called to the 12100 block of E 43rd Street on a report of sounds of gunshots.

Upon officers arrival they located the victim outside a business on E 43rd Street east of Blue Ridge Blvd.  The victim, an adult black male, was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began performing life saving measures until EMS arrived and took over.  The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives have responded to the scene as well as Crime Scene Personnel.  They will be processing the scene as well as speaking to witnesses.

Detectives believe there were several witnesses who were in the area at the time who left prior to officers arrival, understandably who were scared and trying to get to safety.  We are asking those individuals to call detectives at 816-234-5043.  Or if you would like to remain anonymous, you can call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.  There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
