KC man sentenced to 22 years in prison for shooting of transgender woman

A Jackson County judge on Thursday sentenced a 43-year-old Kansas City man to 22 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Brooklyn Lindsey, a transgender woman who was found shot on June 25, 2019, in the 600 block of Spruce in Kansas City's Northeast area, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Marcus S. Lewis, dob: 9/13/1977, was sentenced to 22 years for Voluntary Manslaughter. In addition, the judge also sentenced him on convictions of Armed Criminal Action, Robbery 2nd Degree and  Felon In Possession of a Firearm. The judge set those sentences to run concurrently to the Voluntary Manslaughter for a total of 22 years.

According to court records, Kansas City police were called to the 600 block of Spruce, near Independence Avenue on the morning of June 25, 2019, and found a victim on the ground. She had been shot multiple times and shell casings were found near the body.  DNA linked the defendant to the crime scene. And a check of license plates in the area the night of the homicide was connected to the defendant, who was later arrested for a business robbery. When confronted with the DNA evidence from Lindsey's shooting, the defendant stated he shot the victim.

A Jackson County judge on Thursday sentenced a 43-year-old Kansas City man to 22 years in prison for the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Brooklyn Lindsey. Lindsey, a Black transgender woman, was found shot on June 25, 2019, on the front porch of a vacant house in the 600 block of Spruce in Kansas City's Northeast area, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
