Update - Effort to Recall Councilman Eric Bunch
The momentum is building behind the recall effort for Councilman Eric Bunch. So far, volunteers have gathered more than 15% of the signatures required from verified voters in the Fourth Council District to put the Councilman back on the ballot to face the voters. They have done this with only three out of the thirty days allotted.
Even constituents who are not necessarily opposed to local control of KCPD are signing due to their frustration with the political process that played out on May 20th. When the people of Kansas City are left in the dark, including other councilmembers, that’s when the political extremes dominate the conversation.
The majority of our volunteers from 4th District who voted in the 2019 election, voted for Eric Bunch. They believed that he would be someone who could better the community. Instead, the same day adoption of the 42 million dollar “reallocation” without community input gave reason for people to sign for a recall, as far south as 59th Street up towards North Troost Ave.
We are confident that with the number of Fourth District constituents who feel their voice is not being represented at City Hall, we will reach the threshold of signatures necessary to put Eric Bunch back on the ballot and actually give the Fourth District a true voice.
