Heart Mobile Village residents react to property's sale for new Jackson County jail

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Joy Ufford, 90, has called the Heart Mobile Village at 7000 East U.S. 40 Highway home for the past 51 years. But Monday afternoon, she received official notice the owners sold the park to Jackson County for construction of a new detention center in order to avoid a legal battle.

Jackson County is building its new detention center on a 99-acre site now occupied by a long-established trailer park and former airfield along the Blue River.According to a timeline shared earlier by the county, construction for the new Jackson County Detention Center will begin in the spring of 2022 and be ready for the final move-in by the fall of 2024.The location - which is at 7000 E.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Jackson County Detention Center is one step closer to its new facility. On Monday, the Jackson County Legislature voted to approve the over $7 million purchase of Heart Village. The mobile home park sits on nearly 100 acres, halfway between Kansas City and Independence.
