Playlist: Hopeless Kansas City Royals Smacked Around By Cleveland

Tonight, once again, we remember that glory days are gone and the home team got lucky once, curiously, right before an EPIC sale.

Now the fortunes of the franchise are in peril and it's clear that group ownership won't help this struggling franchise.

Here's tonight's reality check . . .

Cleveland stomps all over Royals, 14-6

I come before you, a writer charged with telling you about the baseball game that just finished in an interesting way. This is a task I take very seriously. However, much like the Royals' pitching staff, I'm not sure I'm up to the task, tonight.

More to the point . . .

The 2021 Kansas City Royals season confirms that the team just lucky by way of moneyball and they're NEVER going to be a dynasty.

And this tragic fact of life inspires our TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST FEATURING SONGS ABOUT BASEBALL that thankfully doesn't include Centerfield by John Fogerty so that the night owls amongst our blog community have a soundtrack tonight.

Here are the tunes . . .

A fun fact that only real baseball & hip-hop fans know about Sure Shot . . . Released in 1994, the Beastie Boys sing, “I got mad hits like Rod Carew.” This is, of course, a reference to Carew being one of the best hitters of the 1970s.

Fun fact . . . Legendary slugger Joe DiMaggio didn't think of himself as a metaphor when this song was written and his name was only included because it had the right number of syllables.

The Billboard #1 hit inspired by a photo of George Brett.

This is actually TKC's favorite song on the list and one of the most underrated pop culture baseball tunes . . .

The boss caps tonight's list with what might be his best video wherein he displays a bit of acting chops and sings a familiar Midwestern story about long lost youth and the fear of pointless regret . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a fun Saturday night.
