UPDATED: Kansas City Gunfire Then Standoff Near 55th & Highland

Domestic trouble starts the morning as police answer a disturbance and work to keep this neighborhood safe.

Here's the report . . .

This morning just after 4:00am officers were dispatched to a residence near 55th and Highland on a shooting call.

On arrival officers contacted an adult male shooting victim there.  He told officers he was involved in a domestic violence disturbance nearby with a male suspect.  The argument escalated in front of the residence when the suspect fired shots at the victim striking in him.  The victim was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The victim told officers the suspect went back inside the residence there so they surrounded that house and attempted to make contact with the suspect to get him to come out.  That effort was met with negative results and so officers deescalated and called for a standoff.  This brings additional resources and trained negotiators to the scene to help bring a peaceful resolution to the situation.

Update . . .

Approximately 09:30 this morning officers made entry into the residence and did not locate the suspect.

The investigation continues into the assault this morning.
