Kansas City Streetcar Extension Taxes Coming Soon

Gerrymandered and rigged mail-in ballots triggered development that might actually be useful and sparking massive real estate speculation . . . And, of course, rising taxes that will be inevitably passed on to consumers and broke-ass residents.

Beginning July 1, sales taxes will go into effect in a transportation development district formed to support an extension of the streetcar from Union Station south to around 51st and Main streets. Property taxes in the district also will become effective, according to district officials. The beginning of the taxes is triggered by the official awarding of $174 million from the Federal Transit Administration. in January. 

The 3.5-mile extension of the streetcar, with nine stops, has a price tag of $351.7 million. Construction work, mainly involving utilities along the route, already has started.
