Camp KC is now part of OUTvoices Kansas City and they have quite a legacy to live up to . . .
TKC was still just starting out when this EPIC COVER PHOTO OF MAYOR KAY BARNES HIT THE KANSAS CITY NEWS SCENE and served as the talk of the town for weeks.
It was a ground breaking move considering that she was preceded by Mayor and former Reverend Cleaver who had a tense relationship with local activists during the outset of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Former Mayor Kay's strong connection to the LGBT community was one of many advantages she had over opponents and this daring print media adventure helped distinguish her from less memorable local politicos.
Thanks to the EXCEPTIONAL folks from Camp who let us borrow the picture and share a bit of niche publishing context and local history amid this month's festivities.
