The GOP anticipated this kind of social justice drama and the move to push back actually preceded Mayor Q's bold announcement.

Former Sheriff Missouri Guv Won't Stand For It

Insiders graciously remind us: Missouri has a former Sheriff as the top lawmaker in the state.

Do you REALLY think Guv Parson is going to tolerate a cut to police funding that costs 40 MILLION BUCKS???

Legislation to back up law enforcement  might be the first thing he signs. Make no mistake that the law man is going to focus a great many resources at overturning this effort.

INSIDERS draw our attention to the fact that this effort was undertaken AFTER the Missouri General Assembly was out of session . . . And so right-wing politicos will have to take a few extra steps to block the move . . . Which they're already excited to do.

Mayor Q will garner face time this weekend on every major news outlet in the nation thanks to the Kansas City police defunding debacle. 

His publicity tour will command attention and its likely, by the end of the discussion, he'll secure a place as a rising star amongst American progressives.

Accordingly, the legislation doesn't really matter . . . The hype is what's important.

Big picture . . . Even Prez Biden has backed away from police defunding schemes like this one. 

The mayor's euphemisms like "reallocation" and accountability have only convinced naive Twitter house wives at keyboard activists. 

The effort is barely disguised "local control" and police defunding  . . . We can debate the merits of the idea after taking a good look at how city hall has managed the water department. 

Kansas City Deadly Summer Violence Will Overshadow Police Defunding

This theoretical discussion of policing is fun on a rainy day. 

However . . . 

WE'RE AT THE OUTSET OF ANOTHER BLOODY SUMMER AND TINKERING WITH KANSAS CITY POLICE CASH IS THE LAST THING THAT WILL INTEREST LOCALS WHEN BODIES START PILING UP!!!

The political chatter makes for great social media flexing but the reality is that the season of rampant gunfire and deadly shootings is likely going to scare residents away from their "woke" protestations which always distract from public safety priorities.

What this debate has really exposed is that a majority of Kansas City residents don't trust mayor & council to adequately fund and prioritize the operations of the police department.
