DE-ANNEXATION!!! NORTHLAND LEAVING KANSAS CITY?!?

We've heard grumbling from across the bridge and some empty threats regarding the Northland parting ways with Kansas City. But now that Mayor Q promises to take his local control & police defund fight to the U.S. Supreme Court . . . The Kansas City crisis has escalated quickly.

To wit . . .

NORTHLAND LEADERS NOW CONVENE WITH MISSOURI GOP OFFICIALS TO WORK ON DRAFTING DE-ANNEXATION LEGISLATION!!!

This game is now more serious than just a bit of shouting at a rally.

The Northland has long been one of the fastest growing parts of Kansas City and a HUGE portion of the tax base.

No, the Northland does not represent more than 50 percent of the tax base as some strident advocates argue, but it's undoubtedly a crucial economic driver of KCMO revenue. KC cannot afford to write-off this integral part of our community.

Cynics might scoff at the idea of de-annexation but on a smaller scale insiders remind us of the nearby Gardener airport kerfuffle that got serious in a hurry.

Here's the word . . .

"It's a long shot. But you've got a Republican governor and super majority who are now at war with the mayor. It would basically cripple KCMO and change the course of history for half a million people but these are unprecedented times . . . It really does depend on how entrenched Mayor Quinton Lucas has become . . . Is it likely? No. But it's not impossible . . . Nobody thought we would be at this point right now and things just keep looking worse . . ."

Airport money alone could fund a very nice town and this effort follows post-COVID culture war migration and a political 'sorting' that's speeding up across the nation.

Developing . . .
