SUICIDE ATTEMPT SPARKS KANSAS CITY CRASH ON SOUTHWEST TRAFFICWAY THAT BRIEFLY KNOCKED OUT POWER!!!

Normally we don't blog crash reports but this tragic scene in Midtown turned out the lights this morning and elicited more than a few e-mails among our blog community.

And so, in hopes of distinguishing fact from fiction and REALLY WEIRD RUMORS about an intersection that has always been a bit treacherous . . . Here's the word from police:

"In regard to a two vehicle collision with life threatening injuries. A silver Chevy Monte Carlo was traveling west on 39th Street, at a high rate of speed. The Monte Carlo failed to stop for the red traffic signal and struck a tan Chevy Silverado pickup that was traveling south on Southwest Boulevard. Both vehicles then slid to the southwest, into the wooden utility pole, knocking out power to the area. The driver of the Silverado was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Monte Carlo was taken into custody for investigation of DUI. The passenger in the Monte Carlo was transported to an area hospital and reported in stable condition."

Update . . .

"Officers responded to an injury accident at 39th and Southwest TFRY involving two vehicles. Upon arrival they located the driver of one of the vehicles who was suffering life-threatening injuries. That driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition. They also made contact with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved. The passenger of that vehicle was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound from an attempt suicide according to the driver and he was transported to the hospital in critical condition."

  7. SW Blvd and SW Tfwy are two different streets so the reporting is not clear except 39th street does not cross the BLVD. If someone is driving a Chevy Monte in these days it is a piece of crap and so is the driver. He/she/it/they need to be in jail and not get off easily. I doubt that he/she/it/they a valid drivers license or even have insurance and probably an expired paper tag as well. Put me on the jury I think you know how I would vote.

  11. Volker, Roanoke, Valentine, and Old Westport meet at that location none of which are the ghetto. what can actually be considered a ghetto is about 1.5 miles to the east.
