Kansas Guv Kelly Cancels 18+ CCW

She also tossed a sketchy flag bill and more voting legislation from the GOP.

Here's the best summary so far . . .

Kansas Governor Vetoes Bill To Lower Legal Age For Carrying A Concealed Weapon

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed a bill Friday that would have lowered the legal age for carrying concealed weapons. The legal age is 21, but the majority-Republican Legislature wants to allow permits once people turn 18. Kelly, a Democrat, described herself as a "long-time supporter of Second Amendment rights."

  2. I own many nice high end collector guns. H&K, Walther, S&W, Korth.

But at age 18 I should not have been able to carry. Too young.

Show me an 18 year old that needs to carry. Is this law for the 18 year old that live in KCK, the war zone, the drug zone?

People's minds do not mature until about age 25. Scientific fact. Thats why front line soldiers are younger than 25, cause if they knew they were being used as cannon fodder they would not do the fighting. Plus they are not old enough to really grasp they could really die. So the young go to battle. And die. Older soldiers are off the line.

  3. 3:45, you have zero idea what you're talking about.

You sound old. Scientific fact: you lose cognitive ability as you age, so maybe it's you that shouldn't be handling guns.

  4. I can't believe I'm saying this but I have to agree with Gov Kelly on this issue. Today's 18 year old's are way too immature, even some of the 21 year old's are questionable.

  5. The science has been there for a while. The brain doesn't fully mature until the early 20's. Reasoning and anunderstanding of consequence are significantly lacking until this point.

I swear, common sense goes out the window when you touch on a hot-button issue. I think people would be arguing that 12 year olds should be packing if the NRA told them that is was good.

As the brilliant Bree Newsome pointed out on Twitter, "Teenagers have been having fights including fights involving knives for eons."

So young BLM folks won't need guns until in their 20s.

  7. 5:50, then let's not have them stand trial as adults until they're 23 and be treated as juveniles if the commit a serious crime. After all, they lack reasoning and understanding of consequence.

  8. 6:15, there has been a lot of debate recently on that very topic. Being considered an adult at the age of 18 is a fairly recent development. Until a few years into the Vietnam War, the federal age of "majority" was 21, and was only changed due to the bad optics of drafted, 18 year old, legal children dying in combat. In the US, Mississippi still considers 21 as the age of adulthood, and in Nebraska it's 19. In much of the rest of the Western world, the age of adulthood is placed in the early 20's.

It's science. The human brain, with all of it's cognitive abilities, isn't fully developed until you're in your 20's. Carrying a gun before then is a bad idea, and yeah, maybe so is charging an 18 year old as an adult criminally. Perhaps sending 18 year olds into combat is a bad idea too, but don't look for that to change, the military needs continued crops of young and dumb soldiers not yet fully able to fully understand the consequences of signing up.

  9. I’m down with this. Now raise the voting age to 21. Brains aren’t fully developed and all that.

  10. There's a certain intellectual honesty to the entire line of thought. Science says that 18 year olds aren't fully developed yet. Maybe they shouldn't possess guns, be charged criminally as adults, serve in the military, drive cars, or vote. All are actions that require a level of understanding of the consequences of actions that they may not yet possess.

And while we're being intelectually honest, lets go ahead and figure out the abortion thing, too. Either life begins at conception and not only is abortion wrong, but any harm to a pregnant woman is x2. Either all life is precious and both abortion and execution is wrong, or it's not and both are okay.

  13. Would you want the 18 year old in your neighborhood carrying a 10mm Glock? With their lack of training, no real danger or them being attacked and their immature attitude?

YOU might be the one the shoot when they are ticked off!

  14. If they don't have logic to carry, then they damn well better not be driving a vehicle.

  15. The governor is smart and sensible. Unfortunately she is dealing with a legislature full of fanatical far-right fuckwits who have made Kansas a state anyone with half a brain avoids at all costs.

  16. She has as much respect and credibility as Creepy Joe. She is a joke and will be another “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass” Dimwit. She’s as incompetent as most Dimwit politicians are. Another rich liberal elite who will soon be run.
