Kansas Governor Kelly Denounces Transgender Bill 'Job Killer' Amid Likely Veto

A hint at the fate of culture war controversy: The governor seyz she "Will not support any bill that she says hurts the state’s recovering workforce."

Money line: "The governor called the bill a “job killer.” She said in other states like North Carolina, companies decided they would not move their headquarters there when similar bills passed."

To be fair, the MLB All-Star Game boycott has cost Georgia MILLIONS.

More to the point, let's not forget that the trans bill isn't veto proof:

Governor Kelly responds to transgender athlete bill passing in House and Senate

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly questioned a proposed ban on transgender athletes in girl's and women's school sports. The Senate approved the measure on a 26-11 vote Friday after the House passed it late Thursday on a 76-43 vote. The governor called the bill a "job killer."

  1. not surprising the governor cares more about jobs than teenage girls growing up sharing bathrooms with men who want to chop their dicks off and dilate every day for the rest of their shortened lives. I'm guessing the state legislature can override this veto

  3. The idea that banning transgender athletes is going to have an economic cost is risible. No it won’t. Even if it did, protecting our children from this craziness would be worth it.

  6. The Fiscal Impact of North Carolina’s HB2Christy Malloryand Brad SearsMay 2016This report was produced as part of a collaboration between Out Leadership and the Williams Institute on the legaland economic implications of LGBT-related policies, and funded by the Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund. The Williams Institute is committed to the highest standards of independent inquiry, academic excellence and rigor. Research findings and conclusions are never altered to accommodate other interests, including those of funders, other organizations, or government bodies and officials.Executive SummaryAn estimated 1.7% of youth (aged 13-19) and 0.3% of adults in the United States identify as transgender.1Applying these percentages to the number of youth and adults living in North Carolina indicates that the state is home to approximately 15,600 transgender youth aged 13-19 and 22,200 adults aged 20 and older.2House Bill 2/Session Law 2016-33(HB2) requires state and local government entities and public educational institutions to restrict use of restrooms according to “biological sex.” The bill defines “biological sex” as “the physical condition of being male or female, which is stated on a person’s birth certificate.”4This policy is in conflict with several federal laws that prohibit discrimination against transgender people. This memorandum analyzes the potential fiscal impact on North Carolina as a result of the conflicts between House Bill 2 and seven such federal laws: Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Executive Order 13672, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act, the Violence Against Women Act, the Affordable Care Act, the Equal Access Rule, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.5The potential fiscal impact of HB2 includes:Loss of federal educational funding of up to $4.7 billion annually as a result of Title IX violations;Loss of federal contracts to state and local government entities of an estimated $35 million to $65 million annually as a result of Executive Order 13672 violations;Loss of federal funding to support NCWorks of up to $108 million annually;Loss of federal grants authorized by the Violence Against Women Act of an estimated $5 million to $5.6 million or more annually; Loss of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a result of Affordable Care Act violations;Loss of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a result of Equal Access Rule violations; andCosts incurred as a result of litigation and federal administrative enforcement under Title IX, Executive Order 13672, the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, the Affordable Care Act, the Violence Against Women Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Equal Access Rule promulgated under the Housing Act of 1949.

  14. This is political theater. The House and Senate get to pass a bill and thump their chests afterwards about what a good thing they did. The Governor gets to veto the bill and do the same thing. Everyone wins except the citizens.

  18. The most hilarious to read on this topic is the constituent newsletter of KS Senate Democratic "leader" Dynah Sykes. Talk about a far-left communist loser. She thinks that anyone who is against biological males competing with females in sports is an "extremist". The only extremist is Loser Sykes. She ran for office as a "Republican" in 2016 only to suddenly become a Democrat in 2018 and finding her convictions. Right. She is a congenital liar and an example of what is wrong with politics today. She lives in a lilly white neighborhood in upper class Lenexa yet espouses the BLM party lines and sits up at night reading Mao's Little Red Book of Wokeness. A complete nobody who has not passed a single bill of value for the average Kansas out of the worthless KS legislature. Look to her to complain about big bad conservatives in the KS legislature while kow-towing to loser Governor Kelly.
