Kansas City Scholars Skip College

Mary Sanchez emerges from quasi-retirement to remind us that higher education no longer provides a clear path to success. It turns out that working on garnering a sizeable social media following is probably more beneficial and lucrative for the vast majority of NEXTGEN students who were likely just going to spend four years binge drinking and sexually experimenting.

More High School Seniors Are Hesitating About College

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed what it means to be young for many high schoolers, particularly seniors. The pandemic has chipped away at students' energy, enthusiasm and motivation to plan for their education after high school, educators say. Many seniors simply want to graduate from high school.

  1. Good! College mostly teaches bullshit. The kids are better off skipping the debt and getting a real skill like plumbing or electrician.

  2. College today isn't what it use to be, they are teaching radical propaganda and don't want to hear anything different. If you do have a different view you are at risk of bodily harm, we have all seen that the last 4 years. I watched Harvard students who were asked what socialism was and they didn't even know. Some other college students said that Obama was a Republican. I worked with one college student that didn't even know how to make change. SAD.

  6. Public Universities charge $20,000 a year for one to sit and listen to a "Professor" who does not have one day of actual work experience and is going to spout Marxist indoctrination.

Professor Dumbass has spent his whole time in College because no one would hire him we after undergrad.

So over 4 years a student is going to spend $80,000 (cash or debt) for a college degree.

That's a lot of money and could be spent starting one's own business or paying 50% down on a home purchase.

  8. With the exception of Medical School, colleges need to be replaced with specific career / industry on-line certification programs that would be 10% of the cost of attending a college.

On-Line certification programs could be taught by those in industry with actual work experience and would present the latest technology.

For instance, a Microsoft or CISCO created certification program for IT.

50% of college classes are general studies which is complete bullshit.

A lot of professors still use chalk boards, white boards and overheads which is ridiculous these days. Or, Professor uses a PowerPoint presentation that he hasn't changed in 20 years.

  9. This is no surprise to anyone, but liberals (a/k/a Democrats) use the public schools and colleges and universities to grind their ideological axes into the “heads full of mush” that are in their classrooms, who are there, presumably, to get an education. Nobody should say that the aforementioned schools don’t teach values – it’s just that the values they teach are a disdain for America, a dislike for free enterprise capitalism, and an embrace of the Hollywood approach to morality. In other words, they are indoctrinating the students they teach with a liberal left-wing philosophy.

If you watch the news (with the exception of CNN and MSNBC, which is “fake news”) you can probably deduce that our young people (a/k/a Millennial’s) voted in large numbers for Democrat candidates this past election cycle. What was the magnet that the Democrats used to get these young people to vote for Democrat candidates that, in many cases, espoused socialist ideas? Some have pointed out that the Democrat “free stuff” politicians appealed to the financially over burdened students by promising that they would forgive their student loans and to institute free college tuition. These young people fell for this propaganda “hook, line, and sinker”, and voted accordingly. Besides, most of the colleges had voter registration tables set up on campuses across the nation, which were stacked with mostly Democrat student volunteers, who reminded students that it was their obligation and duty to vote for the liberal candidates who were offering the “free stuff” that these students wanted financial relief from.

We all know, or should know that 90% of most faculties are staffed by liberals, many of whom dislike or despise our way of life and our capitalist economic system. Ask any student, who exhibits common sense, and he or she will back up that statistic. It’s funny that these same liberal faculties champion diversity of ethnic, gender, and sexual orientation, but when it comes to diversity of thought they are eerily silent.

Sir Winston Churchill summed up this thinking when he wrote the following: “If you’re not a liberal by the age of 20, you have no heart, but if you’re not a conservative by the age of 40, you have no brain”. Very prescient words by Sir Winston, don’t you think?.

I have an idea. How about letting people decide on their own whether or not they want to go to college?

Prescient perhaps, but Churchill was conservative at 15 and liberal at 35, so it's not likely he said it.

I agree; just don't make taxpayers fund public universities that currently are very inefficient, wasteful and full of indoctrination.

Use the taxpayer funds to improve the highways, mass transit, new water filtration plants, or other beneficial infrastructure projects that benefit all citizens.

How about the average salary of $90K for a professor, most of which do not have man-buns and are not technologically out-of-date? BTW, most of them have had to teach remotely this past year are are quite competent technologically.

  16. And, of course, grads soon will not be required to use math in engineering, science and medical courses because insisting on a certain, definitive answer is not required, as it's a white privilege racism thingy.

Thus, when your new grad MD tells the nurse to give you "somewhere" between 250 to 2500 ccs, no problem in this 2+2=maybe 3,4.5 or maybe 6 world.

And I sadly think of the hours I wasted as the nuns made me do the multiplication flash card tables over and over: and now I realize the answers were unimportant.

  17. I have two degrees and taught in grade school and high school.

There are, thankfully, remarkable educators at all levels in most schools. For the most part, my experience has revealed agenda driven, ideologues in classes whose priority is promotion of Progressive/Marxist shibboleths vis a vis actually teaching our youth to think critically and understand the importance of objective truth.

They say, that "Teachers effect infinity". The lion's share of educators in charge of our children now, are agenda driven apparatchiks whose goal is a Red Chinese, Social Credit Score Society controlled by their D卐M☭CRAT thought leaders by way of the enforcement arm of BLM/AntiFa thugs in the streets and Deep State Fascists in Washington D.C.

The road towards "Infinity" looks surprisingly (Or not) like the road to hell.

Don't send your kids to college, or, the KCSD if you actually care about their future.

Wrong - Business Professors start with a salary of $150,000 (before benefits).

If you have a basket-weaving professor earning a $90,000 salary; once you add the ridiculous pension plan, health insurance, and the fact man-bun professors work only 8 months a year due to semester and summer breaks their compensation actually exceeds $150,000 annually.

    $150,000 is a low number.

  24. I went to school while I was in the military, received my degree and commission, then went on to get my masters, courtesy of the US Army. After retirement from the military, I worked in the corporate world for 25 years, and retired a second time. At a relatively young age for retirement years, I applied for a teaching position at a university with classes primarily online, and I have been teaching business administration courses online for just about five years. It's very rewarding work. Most of my students are adult learners (about 50% military), prepare for their meetings, do their assignments, and present their work on time. I would say I have worked quite a bit in my life and have experiences that I believe many students find valuable. I earn a modest salary for the work I do, but then again, this is really something I do to pass the time. To be honest, I have never used the information I learned as an undergrad for my work in the military or corporate world. My masters work has been beneficial, but largely around organizational theory more than the actual work. If I were a student today, or could give advice to students, I would tell them to read voraciously and learn how to communicate effectively. With knowledge comes the power to determine if academics will help your lot in life or just create a financial burden. Military service can be a great way to see a microcosm of the world and help determine your course for the future. I have been told by many that they wished their primary and secondary school instructors had real-world experiences. I concur. So many teachers only know what they know from their college experiences. It's a shame that that is who is in charge of "teaching" our students today.

And yet when I went to school a long, long time ago, many professors were in and advocates for the John Birch Society. One, a geography professor teaching a required course, got upset with me for doing work for another class when he was ranting about politics. So, Chuck, things have not changed much--every professor, liberal or conservative, has an agenda. Most today do not take up entire class periods ranting about non-course related topics.
