Kansas City 2021 Homicide #44: Welfare Check Leads Police To Dead Woman

The local murder count continues to climb over last year's record breaking number as this 44th homicide so far in the year compares with only 43 at this time in 2020.

Suspicious Death Investigation 10700 E 98th Ter. (Being investigated as a Homicide)

This morning just before 10a officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 10700 block of E 98th Ter. On a check the welfare call.  The caller was concerned for a resident there because they had not been heard from.  Officers responded to the apartment and attempted to make contact.  Upon entry to the apartment officers located a deceased female inside the apartment.  Once investigation was underway detectives determined the death did not appear natural.  Our Homicide Unit responded and began investigating.  Crime Scene investigators responded and processed the scene at the location.  The Medical Examiner’s office responded for investigation as well.  They will have the final determination of cause and manner of death which is being investigated at this time.    

To ensure all steps are covered at this early stage of the investigation, this is considered a homicide investigation at this time pending further information from the medical examiner.

There is no additional information regarding the victim ID or potential suspects at this time.
