TKC MUST READ!!! BRITT REID SUSPECTED DUI CRASH CASE FILE DISPUTE & RIVALRY REEMERGES BETWIXT KCPD VS. JACKSON COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE!!!

Outsiders don't know this but Kansas City residents are all to familiar with the dysfunctional relationship betwixt the police and the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office.

In the comments, a few angry supporters of law enforcement have been trolling "Mean Jean" about the backlog of murder cases she has yet to charge . . . Point of fact, they aren't lying.

Meanwhile, last week the courthouse flexed on police once again with a low level assault charge after BLM plaza protest.

For better and worse this rivalry continues and has emerged as a talking point in a high profile case that local media are dutifully trying to ignore in a desperate effort to preserve their ad revenue.

Meanwhile, national media seems confused about how DUI prosecutions work and/or don't work in Kansas City.

Deadspin: Why the hell hasn’t Britt Reid been arrested already?

An outsider's perspective . . .

"Had Britt Reid been my client (meaning, a regular person and not the son of a future Hall-of-Fame coach) in the suburbs outside Chicago, he would not only have been charged within the first 24 hours, he probably would have been handcuffed to his hospital bed while he recovered."

That's a good point that now belongs to history as police have cleverly blame shifted this case and put the burden on the prosecutor's office . . . Here's the money quote with an important highlight . . .

"Indeed, when Deadspin reached out to the Kansas City Police Department, we were told that the case file on Reid’s accident had been turned over to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. When we contacted the Prosecutor’s Office, we were told they had not received the case file, and were unable to comment on the case at all. And though he refused to confirm whether or not the office was waiting on Reid’s blood test results, Director of Communications Michael Mansur did tell me that, in some cases, intoxicated drivers are charged right away, “such as if a person is so impaired that there’s no doubt.” When asked why that wasn’t the case with Britt Reid, who hit a parked car and admitted to drinking, Mansur responded, “I don’t know, I haven’t read the case file.” Mansur also told me it’s not unusual for it to take three to five months to bring charges in a case like Reid’s."

Translation . . .

REAL TALK: TOUGH PROSECUTION TARGETING THE SON OF THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HEAD COACH WOULD BE CAREER SUICIDE FOR MEAN JEAN!!!

Sure, justice should be blind but post-COVID it's clear that the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the few dependable local attractions for this cowtown and they generate biz in bars, restaurants and grocery stores throughout the metro.

To be fair, we're certain the prosecutor is giving this matter her full attention but there's just no getting around the FACT OF LIFE that the Chiefs are much more popular than police or any elected official and negatively impacting their biz won't play well in the court of public opinion.

At this point hacks pundits would mention the poor little girl who remains permanently crippled after a crash with the former Chiefs coach . . . They would be right to do so.

However, if we look closely at the news scene we notice that local MSM has seemingly moved on and local political denizens are now more focused on forcing the resignation of a Kansas State Senate honcho after his DUI hot mess

Just as many readers predicted, this case and the plight of a youngster have quickly been moved out of the spotlight because the hopeless and tragic political realities and permanent injuries are just too tough for the fickle viewing public to comprehend.

  1. maybe delay prosecution until the chiefs go 8 - 8 next season, then the fans will want the Reid Sr. fired and won't are about his son.

    1. case isn't as cut and dry as dead spin makes it. They are playing chicken little. These cases do take time and they should for the sake of the prosecution AND the those who defend clients.

  2. Equal justice under the law? Where a drunken, hyperpriviliged parasite permanently maimed a five year old girl?

Who are you kidding? This is a football town baby! GO CHIEFS!!

  3. Look these people "chiefs scum" are nothing but drunk gutter trash. This drunk moron needs to go the prison for a long long time. Everyone is watching and we will see how money and fame pay off for this loser or if the law will do it's job.

    This is a fact.

THERE IS NO RULE OF LAW AND THE TWO TIERED JUSTICE SYSTEM IS RIGGED.

  5. The media should sunshine the case file log, she’s had this file for a long time. She’s a fucking liar and should be held accountable for it. As long as she keeps spoon feeding the Star stories we all know they won’t write anything bad about her.

  6. That young girl is now extremely rich thanks to the go fund me and the outcome of the lawsuit they will surely win for big bucks

So instead of getting knocked up at 14 and living off the government she actually has a chance to do something with her life

Perhaps they will keep that in mind during sentencing

  7. Well it takes her office at least 3-6 months to review and charge homicides and other violent crimes so I’m not surprised.

    After all...

FOR SEVEN MONTHS STRAIGHT THERE HAVE BEEN 15+ (Currently 17) HOMICIDE CASES BEING REVIEWED AT THE JACKSON COUNTY PROSECUTORS OFFICE FOR CHARGES. CASES WHERE VIOLENT SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY KCPD BUT NOT YET CHARGED BY JEAN AND HER STAFF. 17 SUSPECTS STILL ON THE STREETS OF KC WHILE VIOLENT CRIME CONTINUES TO RISE

WHEN WILL THEY GIVE THESE CASES AND VICTIMS ANY ATTENTION?

TYPICAL SILENCE BY THE LOCAL MEDIA ON THIS. CANT SAY KCPD ISNT IDENTIFYING SUSPECTS. JUST THAT JACO ISNT CHARGING

  8. Its not unusual for charges to be filed in these types of cases months later and its not unusual to have to wait for results of a blood test. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

  9. Hold off on prosecution until the Chiefs have a losing season this year. Then fans will want both Reids gone.

  10. This loser needs to be held accountable. Everyone knows he is an irresponsible idiot who got his job that he was not even qualified for because of nepotism.

  11. It’s starting to appear as though little Brit Reid might be telling the truth and it’s nothing more than a tragic accident, Petersucker and her ilk led people to believe she’s going to put this guy in prison for life because you know, white privilege.....

Just another case of Petersucker leading the victims families down a failed path.

Can we start the recall process and get this racist do nothing bitch out of office and permanently barred?

This poor child will be set for life no matter what the outcome is and that is what really matters.

  12. The precise circumstances of the collision are still murky, mostly because the Star and other local media only tell us the parts they want us to know. As I understand it, the mother's car ran out of gas. (Assuming the vehicle had a gas gauge to warn mom it was about out of fuel, why was she driving it?) Mom stopped the car entirely or mostly on the ramp pavement. Either there were no flasher lights or dim ones, because the battery was running out of juice. We don't actually know whether Reid was juiced, or if so whether that let to the wreck (dark car, dark night hard to see). There are a lot of people who want to string Reid up, but not one of them has in hand all the facts. Even privileged white kids like Reid are entitled to due process.

    1. Even if they're all fucked up while driving and permanently damage a little girl, yes. Due process is not what Britt got, be honest. White glove treatment from start to finish. Ju$$tice at work.

Defense counsel getting a jump start! Victim blaming isn't a good look.

  20. Deadspin is just trying to stir the pot. Majority of ppl are arrested on the spot and no doubt KCPD and the prosecutors are awaiting blood test results, not all that unusual. If you go back and look at previous articles in the star and yes on TKC too you will see where 2 or 3 months later someone gets charged once the test results come back.

And here is the difficulty in ppl not understanding, if they charged him to early w/o the evidence his attorney could have him plead to a charge and boom...its done. They the real yelling will start why he got away with that.

And let's not forget the condition of the young girl likely weighed in on whether to charge him as well. Had Reid pled to a lesser charge and the girl had passed away the prosecutors likely wouldn't have been able to come back and charge him with something else.

As much as I don't care for JPB and her politics I have to say she is right on this one to wait. (i know no one wants to hear that)

My unsolicited words of wisdom, patience....the charge(s) will come.

  22. Here is the plan:

He pleads guilty and get a suspended sentence and probation.
He moves to a new residence in Florida, which right on the beach.
He keeps a low profile for a while.
He gets in trouble drinking again in Florida in 3 years - DUI and crash.
    He gets probation again.

  23. JEAN PETERS BAKER PUNTS ON KC CHIEFS REID DUI/RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT

    Visions of Maryville?
In January 2014, Jean Peters Baker announced that rape charges in the Daisy Coleman case would not be filed. In the following years, both the victim and her mother would commit suicide.

"Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert L. Rice had asked the court to appoint a special prosecutor to review the case of Daisy Coleman, who said she was 14 in January 2012 when Barnett, then 17-years-old, had sex with her without her consent while a second teenage boy recorded the incident with his cellphone. Daisy’s family said after the assault, the boys dropped her off at her house, where she remained outside, passed out, in dangerously cold temperatures."

As part of the plea agreement, Barnett will receive two years probation, and apologize to the victim.

The JEAN PETERS BAKER SCHOOL OF PROSECUTION: a wrist-slap and make them apologize

All those calling for KCPD Chief Smith to resign or be fired are barking up the wrong tree. The tree that needs to be felled is the JPB White Pine, that identifies as a Black Willow.
