Missouri GOP Bill Threatens Kansas City E-Tax And Grants Right To Sue For Refund

Kansas City has consistently defended this revenue source at the ballot box.

Now the GOP hegemony in Jeff City hope to find a legislative workaround for out-of-towners.

Money line . . .

The bill from state Sen. Andrew Koenig, R-Manchester, would seem to force the Kansas City's hand. The legislation defines wages subject to the earnings tax as not including "any work or services performed or rendered through telecommuting or otherwise performed or rendered remotely unless the location where such remote work or services are performed is located in the city."

It also says that if a taxpayer is denied a refund for work not performed in the city, he or she can sue the government to recover what's owed, plus attorney's fees.

Missouri bill would force city earnings tax refunds for telecommuting work - Kansas City Business Journal

A state bill introduced this month would force Kansas CIty to refund earnings tax proceeds for work done outside the city through telecommuting, a measure that, if passed, could prove extremely costly to the local government. The pandemic sent many employees who would work every day in the city to their homes, often outside the jurisdiction.

  5. Vote Yes on the Earnings Tax renewal, so we can keep spending tax money on entertainment districts, convention centers, convention hotels, parking garages for luxury condos and apartments, toy trains, stadiums and subsidize underperforming TIF's.

  7. IF
KC VOTERS FINALLY GET SMART ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE CORE COMMUNITY'S ASSURED VOTE FOR ANYTHING THAT ENSURES MORE GRAFT & INSIDER PROFIT.

THE SHITTY ASSUMES THEY CAN MAKE FOOLS OUT OF VOTERS ONCE AGAIN WHEN THE ETAX EXTENSION VOTE COMES UP FOR APPROVAL.

CHANCES ARE, BASED ON PAST EVIDENCE, THEY'RE RIGHT. WE CAN ONLY HOPE TAXPAYERS ARE REALIZING THEY ARE BEING PLAYED FOR FOOLS YEAR AFTER YEAR.

  8. Well, the black so-called reverunds will indeed make fools of the voters...black voters that is. and when 99.99% of the black vote goes only one way and the rest of the voters (except for the white guilt folks) either split their votes, well you see how we get these crazy politicians!!!

  9. This bill is not needed. The language of the E-tax ordinance is enough to establish that remote workers are not subject to it.

  10. I've been a remote worker for 15-years. My organization is located in DC and I have to pay the E-tax.
