Kansas City Stimmy Vs. E-Tax?!?!

A worthwhile consideration from the TOP ECHELON TKC READERS and one of the many arguments against the upcoming vote . . .

"Why should KC voters approve the E-tax if city hall is getting $195 MILLION in federal subsidy? With hundreds of millions coming into KC from the President Biden's administration, it seems like now is the PERFECT time to replace the outdated tax and start over with something that is more equitable and inspires growth instead of penalizing workers."

Kansas City's $195.5M in stimulus funding expected to help with staffing, housing assistance and more

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - At one point, Kansas City was facing a more than $70 million budget shortfall largely because of the pandemic. But funding from President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan will give the city $195.5 million. Leaders said the money will get Kansas City out of the hole and rebuild its [...]

  1. Vote Yes on the Earnings Tax renewal, so we can keep spending tax money on entertainment districts, convention centers, convention hotels, parking garages for luxury condos and apartments, toy trains, stadiums and subsidize underperforming TIF's.

  2. ^^^ I agree 100%! We need to keep the billionaire developers happy or they will leave and what would we do with all those already empty hotels, buildings and over priced apartments?

We need to keep paying these poor souls or they will have to lay-off all their maids, butlers, limo drivers and for god sakes, we don’t want them to lose their private jets... that would be a total disaster amirite!

  4. I propose a two drink minimum for workers in Kansas City to replace the etax. Every day I must buy two alcoholic drinks from a KCMO bar. Everyone wins.

  6. The E Tax is nothing less than a Reparations tax. The Reparations Council selects Urban projects which are executed by employees who are not selected by low bid, but rather by minority status.
Net Net, the critical City issues such as Crime and Infrastructure will take a back seat to 18th and Vine, Jazz Museum and the various committees of unemployable folks,

  8. With KCMO's track record of upside-down priorities, insider dealing, pandering, and Lucas's inability to say NO to pretty much anyone, that $195 million will be out the door within a month after hitting the bank.
And none of it will be spent on services of any importance or consequence to residents of the city.
    As usual.
    Sad.

DO NOT RENEW THE E-TAX!!!!! IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE CONSERVATIVE, WHITE, OR LIVE
OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN, THOSE DOLLARS GO TO DOWNTOWN INTERESTS, ADMINISTRATION INSIDERS, PEOPLE AND GROUPS WHO HATE YOU. YOU ARE FINANCING YOUR OWN DOWNFALL IF YOU VOTE YES.

  11. The City sends out mailers and advertises to support the E-tax in order to fund the police and fire depts. Lucas has made it clear he intends to DEFUND the cops, so this is just a lie. And we just passed a sales tax EXCLUSIVELY for the fire dept since they refust to control their OT. How about this? Put a sales tax on the ballot EXCLUSIVELY for KCPD that required every penny go to them? Pass in a landslide. We are being led by morons.
