KANSAS CITY PBS FLATLAND FOODIE BBQ REVIEW EXPOSED AS FAKE NEWS!!!

Stick a fork in Kansas City journalism, it's done.

The ongoing collection of circle jerks who comprise the readership of this blog should provide ample proof of journalism's death but right now we're serving up even juicer red meat on a Sunday evening and roasting a publication that most people don't know exists.

To wit . . .

KICK-ASS TIPSTERS CATCH KANSAS CITY PBS MAG PRINTING BBQ FOODIE PR HYPE FROM A COWTOWN FLACK!!!

Here's the word . . .

"Flatland just published this hyping five new BBQ pits:"

Flatland: KC’s Craft Barbecue Scene Heats Up

"The author is Jill Silva.

"Jill SIlva is LITERALLY their PR person (recent release pasted below).

"This is INSANE..."

Accordingly . . .

Click this link or the presser below for a bigger, better view. However, for those who need independent verification, one of the last working journalists at The Pitch called out "PR outfit" Stern + Silva pre-COVID for worsening the blurring line betwixt news vs. hype.

Close readers know that Flatland also publishes the talking points of a real estate hack who spins press releases for downtown developers.

Whilst TKC isn't working with the "Hale Center for Journalism" like KC PBS, we think that even a small tag noting the author affiliation should provide a warning to Kansas City readers who might unknowingly stumble upon what seems like clandestine PR.

Sadly our suggestion might not matter much given that we're mere bloggers and not respected "journalists" funded by donations from (the government, political hacks and) "viewers like you" who might not mind news served with spin.

Admittedly, we're simply beefing about a labeling issue by calling out flacks and professional beggars on the not-so-important topic of cowtown gristle whilst letting our blog community of creeps chew the fat.

The only problem is that Kansas City Public Television playing fast and loose with their "journalistic ethics" (don't laugh) when it comes to foodie news raises suspicions about their far more important local coverage.

To be fair, most grannies who watch the station don't care about journalistic standards and are content to simply keep sending a check in order to ensure Downton Abbey reruns.

You decide . . .

  3. ^^^^ That's great, but your review is incomplete. Since you obviously eat a lot of it then you should tell us how it tastes. Remember that we don't know the flavor of your boyfriend so you'll have to be more descriptive. Use your words.

  7. Is anybody surprised by this? It's not new in the least. For decades, The Star (and most newspapers) has run press releases from politicians and ad-buying businesses almost verbatim.

They always present them as news and fact, and then brag about their dedication to objective journalism and "the truth."

You will never, ever, find a more hypocritical, disingenuous, and ego-driven workplace than the average newsroom (whether it be print, TV, or web-based)

  10. Silva worked at the Star for 20some years, what else do you expect her to produce? Her pension is circling the drain, so she continues to try to earn a living making shit up.
