The pandemic is far from complete and the economic consequences of the plague will continue for years. Accordingly, it's nice to see locals helping each other and we hope it will continue over the long haul . . . Because it will have to.

A year into pandemic, local food banks see huge increase in demand, need for volunteers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The coronavirus pandemic is now nearing the one-year mark in Kansas City. It was last March when health departments and various government agencies issued a "shelter in place" order forcing businesses to close, leaving thousands in the metro without work.

Why is it when I drive by a free food hand out bank I see people who appear better off than me, driving nicer cars than either I or the wife have, while watching movies on their latest Apple phones as they wait in line. But my retired mother on social security at $800 a month is told she doesn't qualify for any help at a food bank close to her.
