COVID killed the movie theater biz and so many amateur urban planners are dangerously forgetting the reality of their own media consumption.
As always, our blog community is here to help . . .
RESOLVED: KANSAS CITY MUST REJECT EFFORTS TO SUBSIDIZE ANOTHER DOOMED DOWNTOWN MOVIE THEATER!!!
It's just not a good business anymore now that every mobile phone is home to a movie archive greater than what any multiplex could ever offer.
Home made popcorn technology has advanced and there's really no benefit to gathering with strangers without the help of a pause or mute button.
The failure of Alamo Drafthouse wasn't not only about the pandemic but also offered proof that selling beef stew with a ticket to the latest super hero garbage flick won't save the cinema.
A developer hack is lobbying for B&B movies to takeover the space but that idea, like most recent movies, is without creativity or any originality. Yes, there's a wonderful history of downtown movies but times change and we can't forget so much of the early movie biz in the Midwest as simply so that locals could enjoy air-conditioning during smoldering Summer days.
Whilst local movie buffs morn the loss of a downtown Kansas City theater, the reality is that people have spoken with their purchases and supporters of the cinema can enjoy a much better experience at home . . . Even after the pandemic.
You decide . . .

ReplyDeleteAnd yet another movie theater will take over the space and make millions whilst TKC barely survives. Weird.
^^^
DeleteThe only millions they make will be courtesy of corrupt politicians giving away taxpayer money. That's the whole point. Sad.
if you build it, I will come.
ReplyDeleteDo the world a favor and turn it into a Walmart please. Will get much more use than a theater.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Soros shall decide. He runs the USA you know. And so does Hugo Chavez. They put Trump back into the Presidency today, didnt they, Q-anon fans???
ReplyDeleteDuh, no!
What? Go to bed.
DeleteKansas City needs to reject subsidizing anything until they get their financial clusterf*ck straightened out but they won't because that will take over a century at this point and NOBODY in KC government has the brainpower to exceed that which God gave a potted plant.
ReplyDeleteEverybody loves the movie, c'mon man. If you have a dream and someone willing to lend you the money, go for it!
ReplyDelete@ 10:35 Just how do you know how much money a theater will make and how much TKC makes. You are hysterical with your ignorant comments. But yet you are on TKC everyday. WEIRD
