There's another budget meeting today . . .
Accordingly, the top comment on this topic from our blog community concerns the embattled toy train streetcar that has been mostly empty during this year of plague . . .
Here's the word . . .
"If there is enough money to run virtually empty streetcars up & down Main St all day & night, the City has enough money to get along without the earnings tax. There is a bus route that is an exact duplicate and the excuse that white folks don’t ride buses doesn’t cut it in these tough economic times."
You decide . . .
They will shut down every civic service known to man before they shut down the streetcar. They are just that invested in it. Water? Cops? Trash? Pffft. Streetcar? Yes please!
ReplyDeleteBut what about the 195 million dementia joe is giving us? That’s nearly three times as much money as the boy blunder lost during all the shut downs. Will mayor mcdumbo do the right thing with all that extra money? Will he pay back all the city employees he forced into furloughs from his failed decisions? Just think how many people will be forced to retire from the city because of him.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I suspect it will all go to the free everything crowd
The show at the auditorium will be as empty and worthless as the budget document itself.
ReplyDeleteClueless citizen do-gooders will go to the "hearing", ask questions, and make believe they have been a part of "the process".
Then Lucas and the clowncil will repair to behind closed doors at 12th and Oak, work with the usual suspect insiders, and actually decide how the money is spent.
That's the way it's "worked" in KCMO for decades, and it 'aint gonna change now.
Services that actually may contribute to the quality of life for residents and small businesses in KCMO aren't even on the table for consideration.
You'd have to be the biggest cornfed hayseed rube to vote in favor of the etax at this point.
ReplyDeleteTherefore I'm sure it will pass at about a 70-30 margin.
The City screwed the Kcmo residents who live in the Taxing district, big time. I promise I will NEVER ride the street car BUT I will be paying $1,000 plus a year in the form of increased property taxes.
ReplyDeleteLike the empty busses, its all about employment of those who would otherwise be unemployed.
I have a novel idea- what about letting the people that ride the streetcar pay for it???
ReplyDeleteThe trolley is an example of socialism at its worse.
ReplyDelete7:46, why do you suppose that only a hayseed cornfed rube would vote in favor of a tax on somebody else that benefits me? That rube seems really smart!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, a city that imposes a penalty on people who live or work there is a hayseed cornfed rube, and not smart.
Streetcar should be shut down & then saving could be used for more corporate welfare.
ReplyDeleteTrolley ridership is down to less than a few dozen folks an hour. Would it be more efficient to give this people ridership passes?
ReplyDeleteStreetcar promised jobs & development; take a look around 10th & Main. All you see are empty building & ever changing stoplights. Besides bars & restaurants; there is a new Dollar General store in Crossroads.
ReplyDeleteToo many fatties in Kansas City already.
ReplyDeleteMake the fatties walk instead of riding the street car.
If Wal-Mart would take away the scooters in their stores, there wouldn't be so many fat fucks riding them up and down the aisles buying Fruit Loops and Little Debbies by the cart load.
^I have. There’s plenty of new development there geezer. You haven’t been downtown in decades and we like it that way!!! Stay in Frogville CHUD. The streetcar’s new extension line has already sparked tons of new developments on Broadway and its not even up and running yet. Try to stick to things you know like tapioca, Bob Evans, and Matlock.
ReplyDeleteSo glad there are smart guys like you. Could you explain how earnings tax encourages businesses to relocate to KCMO? Stupid folks like myself would think it discourages new businesses.
DeleteMeanwhile China Joe Biden just got out of bed in the White House after tossing and turning in his piss filled Depends all night.
ReplyDeleteBiden in bed by 7 then doesn't report till 9...per CNN...he's the first 10 hr president.. if the red phone rings at 2 a.m., who answers it? Jill answers it and says I'm sorry Joe is sleeping and can't be bothered till 9 can it wait?
DeleteNot the toy choo choo! Kanas City just won't be a vibrant and divers city without that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteDO NOT RENEW THE E-TAX!!!!! IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE CONSERVATIVE, WHITE, OR LIVE
ReplyDeleteOUTSIDE DOWNTOWN, THOSE DOLLARS GO TO DOWNTOWN INTERESTS, ADMINISTRATION INSIDERS, PEOPLE AND GROUPS WHO HATE YOU. YOU ARE FINANCING YOUR OWN DOWNFALL IF YOU VOTE YES.
Pipe down, MAGATS. You lost. Fade into history already...
ReplyDeletetoy train special interests! bike lane special interest!
ReplyDeleteMayor 10-10-10 helped get KC to this point.
ReplyDeleteShut down businesses and limit others.
People out of work.
Old Wrecks Archer scared people shitless.
Other cities showed it could run business sanely.
Witness many Ozark cities or even Harrisonville where restaurants were full as people laughed at KC.
So now poor KC is broke as the liberals were in bed with the media.
Strong states like Florida thrived and showed America how.
Poor KC showed how to cower and keep kids scared and schools shuttered and kids didn’t learned this year under Wrecks and Mayor 10-10-10.
Private schools thrived and laughed at poor KC.
Voters need to think again before electing liberals.
Look how many the Governor of NY killed in nursing homes.
Cuomo go to jail and then hell.
ReplyDeleteChuck and Nancy right behind him.
“There is a bus route that does the same thing” as the streetcar
ReplyDeleteTechnically not true
There used to be
Just the old 56 route, Main Street bus for years. Other routs too like maybe 57 went along main and plus a lot of routes would tie into tenth and main transit plaza.
But about, 2017? The ata diverted the Main Street max (the 56 is now the max, fifty million federal dollars made it so)
So now, because it was silliness even beyond what eco devo messaging could conceal, they diverted all the Main Street buses to grand
8:12 if they charged a fare - even fifty cents - ridership would plummet to almost zero
ReplyDeleteHow do I know? Delmar trolley loop in St. Louis
