TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! INSIDER: STRUCTURALLY UNBALANCED KANSAS CITY BUDGET NECESSITATES UPCOMING TAX HIKE!!!

The budget the mayor introduced today is pure fantasy and puts this town on the road to an economic reckoning.

In fairness, we'll let city hall have the first word . . .

Proposed budget of $1.73 billion presented to City Council and Mayor

Money line . . .

Mayor Quinton Lucas and City Manager Brian Platt on Thursday submitted to the City Council a fiscal year 2021-2022 budget that addresses a $70 million shortfall without staff layoffs or furloughs while maintaining essential city services and even investing additional resources in key areas.

The financial crisis spawned by the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the $1.73 billion submitted budget amount, which is $36.8 million less than the 2020-2021 Adopted Budget.

“In preparing arguably one of the most challenging municipal budgets of our lifetime, we thoroughly reviewed every single service we provide, every third party contract and agreement, and every resource we allocate to find unique and innovative ways to reduce costs with no impact to essential city services” Platt said. “We had a lot of tough decisions to make but I look forward to working with the city council and residents to continue discussions on how to best prioritize our spending in the wake of the COVID-19 budget crisis.”

Reality . . .

EVEN WITH PREZ BIDEN FREE MONEY, THESE NUMBERS ARE IMAGINARY!!! MAYOR Q AND THE NEW CITY MANAGER POSTPONE TOUGH DECISIONS AND HOPE FOR AN ECONOMIC REVIVAL!!!

Here's the word and a sneak peek:

"The might as well have just sent us all a Valentine's Day card that reads: "Love Ya! We're raising your taxes again."

The budget isn't worth the paper it's printed on and involves us playing this silly shell game in hopes of a Biden Administration bailout that could be months away. I credit the council for at least suggesting some cuts but this document is a warning. KC is destined for quite a few tax increases that are going to frustrate homeowners and residents."

  10. Just tell the Traffic Unit to write more tickets.... That’s how they have always handled budget issues. You know, there are no ticket quotas you can write as many as you want. If you don’t write at least 150 a month, you’ll have an unsatisfactory review. Right CY?

  12. Vote NO on the Earnings tax. These “tough” decisions should have been made long ago, like stopping the flow of hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts to buddies and organizations. Now with a new fiscal officer watching the budget, it won’t be the fox watching the chicken coop anymore. But one group who will never suffer is Local 42. If you really want to make this city a lean, mean, street paving machine, vote NO on the E tax.
