  1. Fat social workers can make excellent shields when police answer domestic calls for help.

  2. Social workers well-versed in Ebonics..so they can translate the hood-rats rants for the police.

  3. Mean comments aside, Depends on execution of the idea, thus the success of the program

Nice idea bc many situations for police ask them to basically be front line social workers. Does this make sense? Is it even fair to ask cops to fulfill this societal obligation on-the-cheap, when we don’t invest enough in social programs for populations often involved in encounters with police

But what about when the situation with a social worker switches quickly to one requiring a LEO?

  4. This is not news. KCPD has had social workers for over 2 yrs. They are good resources for the officers on the streets. They do NOT investigate crimes nor do they respond to every single call, just the ones where their services would be beneficial.

  5. And did these "social workers" go through academy, gotten a full background check, frequently qualify with fire arms, learn hand to hand, learn less than leathal, get tased, get oc sprayed? Thats whats expected of our REAL OFFICERS
