Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Defeat Postscript: Partying, Politics And Hype To Blame For Blowout

In the Summer of 2019, longtime sports radio talker Kevin Kietzman leveled a scathing attack against Kansas City Chiefs Coach Andy Reid regarding a lack of discipline the seemed pervasive amongst the team that would go on to win a Super Bowl for the first time in more than a generation.

Now, after the team suffered a soul crushing big game defeat, there's a temptation to revisit the words of KK as if they were prophetic and overlook the inconvenient fact that his big, dumb mouth got him booted from his own radio station and he missed out on a great deal of fun before the pandemic locked down the world. Before we call KK a genius, let's remember that he's still out there in the cold pimping a low-rent podcast whilst far less provocative sports talkers occupy much more comfy chairs and rely on a sales team to cold call advertisers.

We'll stipulate that he probably had a point about lack of discipline among the team even if Kietzman's style is now far too repellent for a cultural epoch wherein poetry kicks off football games.

Still, culture clashes might not be as important as the car crash that loomed over Chiefs and refocused fan attention to the fate of a young girl who suffered serious brain injuries and continues to fight for a life following a horrific run-in with Chiefs Asst. Coach Britt Reid - Head Coach Andy Reid's son.

There was reported drinking before the crash that's still under investigation by police and that leads us to the Chiefs widely celebrated boozing.

From popping bottles in Vegas to low key quarantined good times that have found their way to social media. The team has been on a bender for a about a year.

In an even greater distraction, QB Patrick Mahomes was forced to take a break from his dozens of sponsorship deals in order to declare his support for the Black Lives Matter movement

The footballer is pretty far from "woke" but co-signing the movement was part of a unified branding message that most of the nation had to join in order to effectively kick Prez Trump off of social media.

Nevertheless, the unsavory biz of deplatorming the former Commander-In-Chief is still more appetizing then "Mahomes Crunch" and all of the other garbage the local star foist upon the public in a seemingly never-ending stream of sales pitches that were much more relentless than the QB's passing effort last night.

And now, the "First Family" of Kansas City is without repeat championships but is much richer and happier than most people in this cowtown.

Meanwhile, Tom Brady barely cracked a smile after his 7th EPIC Super Bowl victory.

His diet and workout routine is straight out of a prison camp manual.

His fan base and sponsorship game doesn't come close to widespread love for the newly invigorated Chiefs.

All things considered, Mr. Brady doesn't seem to be having much fun or making new friends whilst earning one championship after the next.

There might be a lesson here about hard work and dedication but nearly every player on both teams is a millionaire and their adventures or tough times aren't rally applicable to the plebs.

What we can infer from Super Bowl drama is that local "heroes" have their own problems, fame and glory is fleeting and winning might be it's own reward but it comes at the cost of any real enjoyment which might make it essentially pointless and nothing more than an endeavor manufactured in order sell people a bunch of junk they don't really need.

You decide . . .

    1. Sure, it's a scam to sell products and services but so is everything else.

The game was great if you were a Bucs fan and I'm sure Brady is pretty pleased with winning.

  2. Agree with the hype part at least. The Chiefs and Mahomes are mostly marketing. They would have been a much better team without selling out every step of the way. They were in half of the commercials last night.

  3. Penalties.

Chiefs would have won without all of the penalties.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I couldn’t be more happy that they lost. Now, there can be peace in the City. The loss proves that their prior win was just fluke. And this loss keeps Kansans from destroying our City. Stay on your side of State Line - you’re not a Kansas City native. You’re imposters and posers.

  6. The chiefs are the only thing good in that ghetto and you even fuck them up to

    ReplyDelete
  7. Don't blame the Ref's. The Chiefs with the so called wonder boy walked into that stadium thinking this would all be a second cake walk SB win. Simply put their arrogance cost them the game. Some say Brady cheats, huh? Cheating doesn’t explain the stats he’s put up since becoming the Patriots’ quarterback in 2001. Six Super Bowl titles, 536 touchdown passes, and a 217-63 regular-season record … Those numbers are not reachable through cheating alone and the cheating that many think took place would have never stood up in a court of law.

Brady is one of the best players to ever step onto an NFL field. Combine his skills with a head coach like Bill Belichick, and you have arguably the best player-coach combo in the history of football. This brings us back to the question of whether Brady has ever been caught cheating. Despite what some Patriots haters say, the answer is no.

Deflategate is the biggest Patriots scandal he’s been involved in. While he served a suspension, he appealed it and never admitted guilt. The NFL, likewise, never publicly presented hard evidence that Brady cheated or that he knew the balls were deflated.

It appears that the NFL has had a hard on against the teams Brady has played on. Those were the NFL Refs out there tonight. If the NFL hated Brady that much would they allow their own Refs to help the team Brady is on to win? I think not!

The Chiefs got a huge wake up call tonight and Mahomes was shown he wasn't as great as he thought he was.

The final statistics showed Tom Brady convincingly won the head-to-head matchup. Brady finished the game, completing 21-of-29 for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Mahomes, who was under considerable pressure much of the game from Todd Bowles’ blitz-heavy attack, finished 26-of-49 for 270 yards, with no touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

Crying and gnashing of teeth will not in anyway soften or change the fact the best team won tonight and it wasn't Kansas City. Make all the excuses you want it won't in any way change the huge dose of reality that Chiefs players and fans have had coming for some time.

A lot of the media folks, the Mayor and many others who all thought the Super Bowl would be a slam dunk win are all sitting around thinking about all those bets they are going to have to be good on they made with people in Tampa and so forth. Wonder how many will try and skip on them? Will the taxpayers have to pony up to cover all the bets Lucas made?

Oh and don't forget the bookies who made a huge killing this weekend of Kansas City betters.

  28. The game showed that the coaches weren't good at thinking outside the box. If you don't protect the quarterback, he's not going to make plays. When you know going in that your offensive line is a wreck, you have to compensate for it (most likely by having Kelce serve as an extra blocker).

But noooooo . . . the coaches just assumed Mahomes could do everything.

His receivers sucked too. At least twice he hit a receiver right in the facemask, in the end zone, and they dropped it. Hell, me made those passes while being tackled.

Mahomes didn't lose the game . . . he was one of the few Chiefs who actually came to play. Tampa, on the other hand, was tight and disciplined. They played great

  29. 7:40: +1000!

  30. This game showed that Mahomes cannot win games by himself which many of us thought before. It's a team effort.

Horrible play calling against the blitz as there should have been much more screens and runs. The Chiefs refused to take the short, underneath routes that are effective against the blitz.

Brady dissected the Chiefs defense and made them look silly. He and Gronk looked ten years younger last night.

Brady schooled the Chiefs yet again as the Chiefs looked like the Washington Generals playing the Harlem Globe Trotters.

  31. How many Super Bowl rings does Mahomie have?

  32. Looks like maybe the Star designating Mahomes as "A black man who is the face of Kansas City and the NFL" might have been a bit premature.
But very much just another desperate pandering part of their every day narrative.
Now we'll have to wait to see what new name they might come up with.
    Sad.

  37. Tom Brady had the last laugh. GOAT !

Brady organized a new team with Gronk, Antonio Brown, Fournette etc. and they quietly worked their rears off to get better.

Meanwhile the Chiefs patted themselves on the back and were a bunch of drunks at their own Super Bowl parade in front of kids that worship them.

Humility and hard work won last night.

  40. The truth is that the offensive line was horrible. Three of four starters there from from last year's SB were not playing. Also, the D-line could not do much against Tampa's good offensive line. Case closed. You can't beat Brady without pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The offensive line was not good; but their were plays where Mahomes had time to throw and no receivers were open.

Reid and Biennamy got out coached and Mahomes showed he is not the GOAT.

In fact, that was probably the worst performance by an NFL QB in a Super Bowl.

2 INT's and no TD's is really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You would have thought renaming the JC Nichols fountain would have won Kansas City another Super Bowl.

Ever since the fountain was renamed the City has been under a curse.

Record homicides, bankrupt city, Plaza destroyed, Independence Mall destroyed and now a Super Bowl loss.

The curse of JC Nichols will hang over this City forever.

  59. LV (2020) Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31, Chiefs 9: The ballyhooed battle between Brady and Mahomes – "The GOAT vs. The Kid" – never materialized, the showdown every bit as dissatisfying as Montana vs. Marino years before. TB12 was stellar (3 TD passes) on the way to bolstering his legacy with a seventh ring and fifth Super Bowl MVP trophy. Playing on a bad foot behind a tattered O-line, Mahomes had the worst game of his four-year career.

Whenever GOAT conversation comes up; journalists and fans will point to this Super Bowl.

Brady mowed through HOF's Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and then Mahomes to win the SB. That is quite a feat.

The excuses about the offensive line are lame as every team experiences injuries and all of the Chiefs skill players were healthy.

Mahomes and the Chiefs simply got out played and out coached.

The better team and QB won.

  68. "you can't beat brady w/o pressure" yes this precisely. he had so much time.
by contrast, our QB, the way we have exposed our superstar to injury, it is like some kind of 3rd stringer on a canadian football team as if we don't care about him. he had no time to do anything.

refs were awful. the penalty negating the mathieu interception was totally BS.

hey why do the refs get to have twenty + year NFL careers, yet players lucky to get 3 to five years? why all these long term line judges and NFL staff hanger ons. players should get dibs on those jobs post-careers, a lot of the guys could use jobs later and, if qualified, they should absolutely get first dibs on those jobs.

salary cap is a joke. used by billionaire owners to stiff their laborers the wages they are entitled to.

NFL is a joke saying the donated $250 million to 'systemic racism' fighting or something LOL. so the players should say, "if you got $250 million laying around, send it our way, and fuck that salary cap"

    radish has spoken

Let’s not forget racist joe didn’t want black kids going to his kids white school and he voted for some of the harshest punishment for blacks when they got caught committing any crimes.

Your not seeing a lot of coverage on the super bowl because of Tom Brady’s support for President Trump which makes me like him more and more, the dimwit party is so ate up with Trump and somehow see’s this as a victory for Trump and not a victory for a living legend, well that and he’s white so...
