KANSAS CITY ARCTIC CRISIS!!! POWER COMPANIES ANNOUNCE ROLLING BLACKOUTS TO AVOID GRID FAIL AMID RECORD COLD, URBAN STREET CLEARING STAYS LOSING & TRASH BACKED UP!!!

Kansas City confronts dire midday warnings that residents might lose power amid deadly cold if locals don't work together and conserve resources.

Right now here is the rolling blackout notice . . .

Evergy: Southwest Power Pool Requests Emergency Electricity Reductions

Kansas City, MO – February 15, 2021 – Due to extended extreme temperatures affecting the regional power supply, the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has asked member electric utilities, including Evergy, to implement controlled, temporary emergency electricity reductions in order to help avoid larger uncontrolled and extended power outages throughout the region.

Beginning on February 15 at 12:15 p.m., Evergy will begin to turn off electricity to blocks of customers for approximately 30 – 60 minutes. Once the period has concluded, power will be restored to the impacted area. The emergency outages will then rotate to another portion of Evergy’s service area. Power will cycle off and on periodically until the reduction is no longer required by the SPP. With these extreme cold temperatures, equipment may not operate as intended. As a result, outages could last longer than 30 - 60 minutes.

If you are impacted by an emergency electricity reduction, you do not need to report your outage.  Rather, check Evergy’s outage map and www.evergy.com/outageinfo for more information.  All customers should be prepared for the potential for these periodic outages. If you experience an outage that lasts longer than an hour, report your outage at www.evergy.com or call 888-544-4852 or 800-544-4857, for Kansas Central customers.

Here's confirmation on that report so that nobody thinks this is a joke . . .

KSHB: Kansas City-area utility companies initiate controlled outages

Pitch: Kansas Citians will experience controlled power outages today

Fox4: Blackouts in Kansas City metro imminent as cold causes power shortage

And now a word from KCMO . . .

Advisory: Power outages possible throughout KC area today and tomorrow.

KC power companies are initiating controlled power outages across Kansas City (and other areas in several states) as electricity demand has exceeded power generation capacity.  The rolling blackouts are expected last 30-60 minutes for a given area and to continue through the next 48 hours.

Per the power companies: Customers are encouraged to turn thermostats down to 68 degrees or lower and employ other means to conserve energy such as:

- Avoid using energy-consuming appliances, including washers and dryers, ovens and dishwashers, through at least mid-week when possible;

- Make microwave or toaster oven-friendly meals, which use less energy than stoves/ovens, if possible;

- Change furnace filters to help with efficiency;

- Close furnace registers in unused rooms and make sure registers in other rooms aren’t blocked;

- Wear an extra layer or use an extra blanket rather than cranking up the thermostat;

- Close blinds and curtains to prevent heat loss through windows;

- Turn off and unplug nonessential appliances.

Make sure that your radios, flashlights and other portable electronics have batteries and your cell phones are charged.  Ensure that water pipes are protected (run the water slowly, wrap in blankets, open cabinets, etc.).  Stop up drafts around doors and windows.

Remember, generators and wood/charcoal grills should not be used indoors.

Be informed with other tips from ready.gov and preparemetrokc.org.

Meanwhile, the weather outlook is nothing less than horrific as temperatures reach historic lows.

Of course there's no trash pickup right now because of the President's Day federal holiday that isn't being celebrated because people now shop on Amazon and a very vocal group of American activists consider The Founders and most American leaders akin to criminals. However, recycling is already backed up a week and there's advance word of another trash delay announcement on the way in order to protect workers from dangerous temperatures.

Once again KCMO is touting a new "snow plan" but the reality is that many neighborhood streets remain iced over and nearly impossible to pass.

More to the point . . .

There's no doubt that these are likely the "darkest days" of the COVID Winter for Kansas City that could get even worse if the power completely FAILS beyond the rolling blackout policy switcheroo.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Texas has problems because of, wait for it, the FED!

    Now Texas is in this mess because they were out of compliance with EPA clean air standards. In order to get EPA absolution they had to come up with a plan to drastically cut emissions. That meant closing coal plants, HOV lanes and flex, work hours, and green energy. They are now compliant. Wind represents about 20% of their grid capacity. The grid operator warned over 20 years ago that once solar and wind represented more than 15% of our grid, our grid would become unstable. They were correct.

    We are going to freeze, but the environment will be okay for rich people who don't have to obey the rules, or, as I like to call them, Democrats.

    "The Golden State’s ambitious renewable portfolio standard is coming under fire as the state’s energy grid buckles under the strain of an oppressive heatwave, prompting rolling blackouts that have left millions without power as the state moves to replace nuclear and natural gas as energy sources with solar and wind.

    California seeks to generate 60% of electricity via renewables by 2030, but Mr. Biden’s Green New Deal is even more aggressive, calling for a 100% carbon-free grid by 2035 “to meet the existential threat of climate change while creating millions of jobs with a choice to join a union.

    If they want to know what’s going to happen in a Biden presidency with his energy plan, look to California today,” said Larry Behrens, Western director of Power the Future. “You can apply that nationwide. You can look at forms of energy that have been reliable for decades, providing not only energy but affordable energy and jobs for communities, being swept away.”

    It's an absolute cluster fuck and if you can't provide California with that kind of weather, Green Energy, than in climes with dramatic shifts in weather will be exposed to the usual stupidity, ignorance and ideologue thinking that has NO base in reality and relies on bartenders and life long government employees to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

    Coal plants have been closing at a fast rate since 2010 (290 plants have closed from 2010 to May 2019; this was 40% of the US's coal generating capacity) due to competition from other generating sources, primarily cheaper and cleaner natural gas, (a result of the fracking boom) which has replaced so many coal plants that natural gas now accounts for 40% of the US's total electricity generation, as well as the decrease in the cost of renewables.

  79. D卐M☭CRATs LIE2/15/21, 5:55 PM

    D卐M☭CRATs don't like nuclear power because it's scary and they don't like coal power because it's icky. Their alternative "solutions" are not effective, efficient or even practical. Many of them are flat fucking stupid. You would have to cover the entire state of Texas with windmills and solar panels to be able to power the state of Delaware. Could we please quit playing with novelties until they prove themselves?

  82. It is sad and ironic that in a state known for its huge petroleum and natural gas resources, the lack of reliability of wind power has brought the state to its knees in a time of crisis, not unlike that which California experienced in 2020 during record heat where wind and solar power could not keep up with demand and was near collapse.

    The folly of chasing renewable energy as a means of mitigating “climate change” is making itself abundantly clear today in Texas. When will politicians wake up and realize that renewable energy almost always equates to unreliable energy?

    On Monday morning, ERCOT wholesale electricity prices for delivery surpassed the grid's price cap of $9,000 per megawatt-hour, many multiples over the average costs of $25/MWh.

    Our trader contact at a Houston energy firm sums the situation up as eloquently and succinctly as ever:

    "we've officially hit the 'Holy Fucking Shit Levels' here..."

    If you are a retailer, obligated to, lets just say, 25MW, and did not hedge (meaning you left it to get filled by ERCOT at market clearing price), you just incurred a $7.1M cost on an around the clock basis for a single day.

    Thousands of businesses will be facing millions of dollars in electricity bills... "

    $5.00 a gallon is the least of our worries right now. You fuckin idiots turn everything you touch to total fuckin shit.

    But, to answer your question, it is coming, like God's fuckin vengeance.

    You scumbags wanted to destroy the economy and you are going to do it.

    Why does anyone vote for these insane Democrats. Look at the shithole Kansas City has become under Democrat Party control.

    The Democrats have no commons sense.

    Within two years gas at the pump will be $4.00 a gallon or more due to the Democrat (Biden's) insane policies and we will have even more brownouts during extreme cold and hot weather days.

    The problem with D卐M☭CRATs is that they can't ever maintain or upgrade anything. Run it straight into the ground and then bitch about it. It all has to be something that is shiny and new that we don't need and won't work. The new KCI and this green weenie shit for the country's power grid and other energy supplies are prime examples.

    Traders are drawing comparisons between the energy shortages now gripping the central U.S. and the 2000-2001 energy crisis in the western U.S., as well as a 1998 run-up in power prices in the Midwest. Just months ago, California was forced to institute its first rolling blackouts in two decades when extreme heat pushed power demand beyond capacity.

    Besides the human impact, the cold is wreaking havoc on the energy industry itself. U.S. oil production has dropped by anywhere from 1.5 million to 1.7 million barrels a day, helping U.S. crude prices trade above $60 a barrel for the first time in more than year. The region’s refining complex -- which produces almost half of the nation’s fuel -- is struggling to limp along without power. Some of the largest oil refineries have shut altogether, threatening to reduce supplies of gasoline and diesel across the country.
